Biography
[ E S T R Y N ] In A Perfect World - POTF ♪ ♫ Glassworker - Kind • Timid • Determined
"I've seen the world from every possible angle. This cruel, ridiculous, beautiful world."
It's all fun and games until the wind snatches the pearls. It never hits the ground, but they do. - Xemriss When Estryn was a hatchling she watched her newly made pearl be crumbled into dust for its perceived imperfections according to her mother. A tragedy she could barely process, before she was 'accidentally' pushed off of the edge of one of the floating platforms in the Twisting Crescendo. The wind tossed her around wildly and she hit the ground hard, she should have died then and there as soon as she made contact with the ground. But she was rescued by a passerby named Azazel, who rescued her despite the low odds of her survival; coming to adopt her not long after. But this did come with a price, as through saving her life he'd made her completely dependent on the Mondire Court's signature blood. The blood that is produced by the court holds healing properties usually unmatched by average medicine, but it makes the user completely dependent on it for the rest of their lives; overuse can even drive a creature to madness. Estryn was given teachings as to how to handle it safely however, by one of the Mondire Court's doctors, Iosefka. With her help she became allowed to use it more like an everyday medication, as long as it was handled with proper care and kept hidden away she would be in no danger. With this she was able to live something close to a normal life, as much as she could being a pearlcatcher without her own pearl at least. She always felt its absence even with the very short time she'd had it, her claws still made a motion of wanting to grip it and finding only air. The court didn't offer her much favor either with how much its absence was seen as a social disgrace, other pearlcatchers were the most critical of her undoubtedly, but she did still make friends. A traveling wine expert named Winterberry liked spending time with her regardless of if she had her pearl or not, and the court's own Princess Virtue also appreciated her company. Though the dragon that became her best friend was a fellow oddball in the Mondirewick Castle, a mirror that called himself Trooper MR-9570, Virtue insisted on calling him Morrow but he didn't respond well to the name at first. Estryn would not push him with trying to find the individuality that everyone knew he struggled with, making her the dragon he would end up spending the most time with. He sometimes would act as an assistant even as she picked up glasswork, testing out the glass weapons that the court insisted that she make for them. Though she didn't really like doing that, she'd picked up the hobby as way of using her creativity, she liked to make glass figures more than anything else... and at some point, her friends started to notice how it was draining her. Winterberry was already planning on leaving, she'd always been a traveler and felt her time at the castle was done, so she asked Estryn to come with her to maybe find a place to live that suited her better. She couldn't cross the Scarred Wasteland easily on her own, her friend would end up being the biggest chance she was going to get, at least that's what she thought at the time. But after giving her goodbyes to her father, Virtue, and Iosefka, she kept trying to find Trooper as well; only to find him standing outside of her living space at attention. He'd already heard she was planning on leaving, and insisted that she was not going to be going without him, and not without her pearl. She was barely able to get a question out when he brought out from his bag, an orb made of gold. He'd done his best to make the core durable enough to serve as a pearl for her, and she cried tears of joy while accepting his insistence to follow her and Winterberry. They made their trek across the Scarred Wasteland, exploring other clans, camping out together, Winterberry trying out painting Estryn's horn and claws to match her pearl for fun. She was constantly keeping her memories of the journey up to date with it, despite how scary it felt to leave the only home she'd ever known, she'd also never felt happier. They traveled across Sornieth for ages before they stopped in a growing Wind clan known as the Dandelion Breeze clan, for a rest on their tour through Windswept Plateau. It felt very... peaceful, a return to roots that she never really felt she'd had after being raised in Plague. She told Winterberry she was going to try to stay there, and tried to tell Trooper that he didn't really need to stay with her if he didn't want to-- but she didn't even get through the sentence before he said he was staying. Her fellow pearlcatcher friend continued onward, but Estryn made herself at home in her new clan with her best friend at her side. She would still see her father and the rest of her friends however, Azazel would often visit to provide more of her 'medication' for her while also seeing how his daughter was faring. Winterberry and Virtue would often all collaborate in letters to find times to meet up together if they didn't outright see each other with the wine seller's wanderings. But Virtue herself also made a surprise visit one day, with a baby pearlcatcher in tow named Halley. She barely needed to explain Halley's story to Estryn before she decided to take the hatchling in as her own, following in her own father's footsteps with choosing adoption so it seemed. She helped Halley adjust to life without a pearl, or with a substitute pearl after she chose a toy ball to use as it. Raising Halley to refer to Trooper as her uncle, much to the mirror's Estryn has lead a complicated life, but she loves her family, friends, and her life as it is today very dearly. Even after all it took to get here, she regrets not a single moment of it. |
