Biography

Jekyll and Hyde's Vacation wrote:

At last, the week was coming to an end.

Two imperials sat resting atop a mountainous cliff which overlooked a barren, shattered plain. They had watched as hundreds of dragons gathered there daily for the past seven days. Each came from different flights, but they all worked together now to preserve the ancient land's history from crumbling. They heard that the Tidelord, Windsinger, and Flamecaller were also recruiting dragons, but the two agreed that the Earthshaker's influence was overwhelmingly strong this week and unless the earthen clans got overconfident and started slacking, they would surely capture dominance.

Further in the distance to the east, the pair could see a blur of lush green forests and a single, massive tree that overlooked the rest of the Gladekeeper's realm. Their home flight was currently dominating and as a reward for their own contributions in the previous week, the pair had decided to take a short vacation. Tomorrow though, they would be leaving the archaic land of Dragonhome and returning to the Viridian Labyrinth.

The male, Jekyll, stretched his wings and nuzzled his mate softly. "So what did you think about this vacation?" His blue wings gleamed slightly in the light of the setting sun as he folded them back down.

"Rocks. Too many rocks." Hyde, the female, spoke in a serious tone but then laughed softly. Her voice had a calming lull to it, like a breeze passing through a leafy canopy. "I prefer being surrounded by the fauna of home, but I do feel at peace here. It's odd, I don't really know how to explain it..."

Her mate nodded in agreement. "I feel it too, but it's a shame that we came at such a chaotic time." As Jekyll spoke, he spotted more reinforcements flying to the aid of Dragonhome. "Four deities duking it out."

Battle between deities was not unfamiliar to them. The pair were seasoned warriors that spent much of their time training young dragons in nature clans the art of battle and readying them to serve the Gladekeeper. It was a rare opportunity for them to feel so at ease and speak to each other like this. Most unexpectedly though, the imperials had a clutch that they did not plan for.

Jekyll looked back at the nest of eggs he sired, then got up on all fours and walked over to it. He examined each one carefully. "It's almost time." His mate quietly followed after him.

Unlike the eggs they were used to, these ones were infused with earthen might. The shells were not delicate pods like those of nature eggs. Instead, they were a solid like the mountains of Dragonhome. Any hatchling that could break through these shells without any aid would be powerful indeed.

Hyde gently touched the eggs and smiled with a longing expression. "They will make fine warriors when they grow up. Whether they choose to serve the Gladekeeper or the Earthshaker, I will be proud of them either way." She was about to say more but something had alerted her. Her ears twitched and she tensed her body around the nest in a battle ready position, her eyes scanning and her ears listening.

Jekyll's senses were not as sharp, but years of fighting alongside his mate got him to react as soon he noticed something had disturbed her. No words needed to be spoken. He became airborne as Hyde remained with the nest. The last slivers of light slowly faded as the sun set completely, allowing his body to blend in with the night sky. At last, he heard it: the sounds of flapping and moments later, a screeching battlecry. "Looks like the harpies are back for another round... those good for nothing egg thieves."

Below, his mate hissed with anticipation. "Heh, I can't wait to go back home." Her voice was no longer like a calm breeze but instead, a howling gale. "That's another thing Dragonhome has too much of... rocks, and harpies."

Before the harpy flock flew in too close, the two imperials lunged and started swatting them down, careful to not let even a single drop of blood or feather taint their nest of three.
