Biography
"But this... which would... and then that... brilliant!" -Dawn
Dawn's early life was that of travel. Wherever the wind took her and hers, she was there. No close friends or deep attachments beyond her wayward family, she never stayed in any place long enough to have that.
But she was the most inquisitive soul, the divine spark of genius within her drove her to gather knowledge wherever she went. The forging techniques of the Ashfall clans, the methods of foresight of the water dragons, even the sculpting and engraving of the Earthshaker's followers. She could not keep friends, but she could keep knowledge. A reminder of where she had come from, where she had been. A reminder of her teachers, that all the distance in the world couldn't erase the memory of a lesson well taught.
It was lightning though, that found her utterly transfixed. The clockwork mechanisms that were built to serve strange purposes, power harnessed often for its own sake. The engineers and inventors all seeking to outdo each other, to prove to themselves, and to the world that they were the greatest gear-grinders in the world.
It was there that her knowledge, her pursuit of it was most welcomed. Every inventor she met seemed to enjoy nothing more than the subtle praise of awed curiosity, and her mind was quite suitable for the sharing of ideas. She was encouraged, every step of the way, to try new ways of thinking, new ways of building.
Her inventions were beautiful things, encased in clever stonework, or carefully hammered metal. She wasn't the greatest inventor ever, but her creations were among the most elegant. Competitions often being tilted by appearances as much as function. It won her friends and enmity in equal measure.
She loved her time in lightning's blinding brilliance, but something in the webbing of her wings began to itch. A desire to travel once more, to set out on a journey not to find a new place, but rather, to find a purpose with which to bend her talents.
It was in the lair of a nature dragon she ultimately found that purpose, her talented little claws designing ways to bring water up from the soil, to help cultivate the land and to keep an eye towards the borders.
But also to help along a storyteller who had fallen from the heavens to land at her feet. Her inventions making his recovery more comfortable, removing, piece by piece the feeling that he could do nothing on his own.
She was a brilliant dragon, an inventor, and it would seem a healer too.
... It didn't hurt that the hatchlings always crowded around to see what she was doing at any given moment. A little adoration goes a long ways.
