strange little larva.
A strange little larva... the egg minder couldn't find it on the wavelength. Some were a little slow to connect. The drone reached out, attempting to encourage the little larva's connection. But still found nothing but silence. It's simple programming gave it no solution to this problem, and bothering the Consciousness with the concerns of eggs and what should be pure born drones was not in the programming either.

So the egg minder moved on. Leaving the small black larva to fend for itself. It would find its way to the wavelength, or it would die. It did not matter to the egg minder.

The larva's head swiveled, bright green eyes watching with the gleam of intelligence as the larger drone moved away from it.

what is VEX?
A unmatured drone, with bright green luminous circuit markings across it's entire body. It doesn't appear to have grown at all since Deceit began his work with the drone. It has swirled green eyes, and appears to be sentient. It cannot communicate verbally, or over the Base Wavelength common to most members of the hivemind. When in physical contact with another entity, the drone can utilize something resembling telepathy, but might be more accurately called the ability to produce it's own personal wavelength that can connect to any entity VEX is in contact with. When VEX is in contact with an entity that has been assimilated, VEX is capable of rewriting the entity's coding. It cannot give new commands to an entity without being in physical contact, which makes it unsuitable for running a hive of it's own.

deceit's journal - entry 01
Rylzen has located for me a small larva from a Hive. He said that the creature was outside the hive proper. I'm not certain I've ever seen a larva outside it's hive; they tend to be next to useless to their consciousness and are left without programming. And yet, here this one sits wriggling. It eats what I offer it, and must have at least some awareness of it's own as it's eyes follow my movements. I think it will be the perfect candidate for the small sample of assimilation fluid I was able to obtain.

deceit's journal - entry 02
I have managed to create what is known as a Hijacker, via quite a bit of testing with the small larva that I am now calling VEX. There were several side-effects from the process, one being that the creature is now covered in bright green, slightly luminous markings. Second being the creature's eyes have changed, and now posses a curious swirling pattern. Third, and perhaps most importantly, the creature can now communicate.

It seems that VEX cannot connect to the base Wavelength like most of its kind, nor can it speak. However, when in direct contact with another entity, VEX can create what is most likely a "personal wavelength," similar to what I've heard consciousnesses can produce. Once I am certain my little experiment is stable, I will need to discover if VEX can, in fact, perform the function of an actual Hijacker, or if it's defect prevents it from serving this function.

deceit's journal - entry 03
Ketu discovered the entrance to a hive and between her and Rylzen was able to lure out a drone. The pair was able to incapacitate the creature and bring it to me. It... it looks quite a lot like a nocturne, though with some obvious differences. The moment that VEX touched the creature, however, it went limp for several moments. Then stood as if nothing had happened, it's eyes now possessing the same swirled patterns as VEX's own eyes.

I would call this a successful proof of concept. The next step is to see if VEX can go into a hive and return unharmed...
