Some dragons may wonder why the Woodland Path was chosen as a Coliseum Venue, as it is merely a forest trail that leads into the heart of the woods and then back out again. As far as trails go, it's pretty tame, and there isn't even a boss familiar to scare the wits out of dragons. The loot is average, and the only reason dragons enter the woods is mostly to hunt for bat wings and the fiendish Cockatrice that happen to populate the Path.

However, this didn't used to be so. Once upon a time, the Woodland Path was one of the most dangerous forests for dragons to be in. This wasn't due to the familiars in the Path, which mostly consisted of peace-loving dryads and the occasional weird moving plant, but due to the Fae named Woodland.

Abandoned in a dense forest as an egg, Woodland was hatched by dryads who had mistaken her for an oval rock and tactfully incubated her by burying her under a pile of rotting leaves. The incubation was successful, and when Woodland came out with colors not so different from dryads themselves, the dryads decided to adopt her as one of their own. For a long time, Woodland lived happily with her foster family, learning the ways of the dryad, which mostly involved co-existing with dragons and other irritating creatures in the woods. She soon became famous due to her ability to nourish the earth with her magic - which really isn't that difficult for an earth dragon, and dryads came from different forests for a pouchful of her famous dirt. Having Woodland's magical earth meant healthy forests and strong dryads, which meant it didn't take long for her pouches of enchanted dirt to become a symbol of strength in the dryad world. Woodland's fame grew, and she quickly found herself in charge of the massive forest where she was raised, then as a leader of all dryads.

But then - tragedy. One day, while Woodland was off doing naturey things with her dryad family and friends and followers, the forest suddenly burst into flames. The dryads rushed back and forth in a vain attempt to extinguish the flames, to no avail. Woodland rushed to help, distributing her famed soil to regrow the trees as fast as the fire could burn them down. But heedless of their efforts, at the end of the day, the forest remained a scorching inferno. Rumors began to spread that a dragon had been the cause of it, using accursed magic to turn the forest into a sea of flames. To rub salt into the wound, the dragon had apparently fled the forest, not even taking responsibility for the carnage it had caused!

Well, that was the final straw for Woodland. Like most dryads, Woodland is usually peaceful, but the destruction of her forest proved to be the tipping point. Coexisting with the bumbling brutes of dragons had been hard enough, and now a dragon would burn down her home? Unacceptable. And as the leader of the dryads, Woodland knew exactly what to do: leave the most fire-resistant ones to fight the flames devouring their home, and gather all the forces she could muster. Turns out, aside from making plants grow pretty, Woodland was also an excellent military leader and inspirational speaker, using heart-rending words to whip her followers in a fury. Inflamed by her speech, the dryads went on a massacre, and suddenly, being a dragon became the most dangerous occupation within a sixty-meter radius of any forest.

The slaughter went on for days, and the largest campaign took Woodland and her followers through a particularly thick forest that reminded Woodland bitterly of how her old home used to be. Things could've ended pretty badly for the few dragon clans that happened to have taken up residence on the other side of the woods, but fortunately, once the dryads had slaughtered their way through the forest, Woodland began to calm down. This forest was a good one, she thought, and she'd cleared it of the pesky dragons anyway. (Well, herself excluded, but that went without saying.) In any case, her old home was unfit for living, so she might as well put down roots here, so to speak. The order went out, and the dryads calmed down. Woodland explained that now that they had demolished the dragon population (they hadn't), it was time that they went back to the good old days of planting and growing things. Starting in this forest, a new era of the dryad would begin, and they would show all those terrible pyromaniacs out there the might of the trees!

It was quite inspiring, and so many dryads volunteered to stay and help Woodland usher in the new era, while others were content to head back to their home forest with rewards of Woodland's special dirt. With the help of dryads and some tinkering with earth magic, Woodland managed to make her new home forest grow to even greater heights. She built a great treehouse deep in the woods, where she set up her dirt-distribution system and created a system of dryad couriers who would rush the enchanted soil she made to their brave friends still fighting the good fight in their old, fiery home.

Fire-fighting from a long distance on top of ruling over the dryads took up most of her time, and so Woodland forgot to give the order to continue massacring dragons in the forest. However, for a long time after the bloody military campaign, no dragon dared enter the forest. The bare trail left behind when Woodland slaughtered her way through the forest became named after her as the Woodland Path, and it was revered by all Beastclans and viewed as a road of pilgrimage for new dryads.

As for Woodland herself, by the time she realized she'd forgotten to tell the dryads to continue killing dragons, it was too late and there were far too many clan populating the woods for the dryads to fight. Summoning her entire army would take months, and besides, she didn't think the dragon clans wouldn't notice a bunch of dryads suddenly gathering in the Path. As far as dragons go (herself excluded, of course), the ones currently living in her forest aren't too bad, and so she's begrudgingly allowed them to stay there. For now. After all, if she's ever going to lead the dryads out on a killing campaign again, it wouldn't be against those dragons, but rather, the one dragon that had set her old home on fire. She still doesn't know who the culprit is, and while she's far too busy now to look for them, she hasn't forgotten. Revenge will come, and when it does, the world will once again fear the dryad. Until then, Woodland is more than happy to continue her role as the leader of dryads and distributor of the holy dirt.

Though, recently, she's heard rumors about an orange Tundra who's planting tigerlilies in a nearby forest, so perhaps that would be a good place to start...
