B I O G R A P H Y

It is rumored that Arvias was not always a many-eyed knower of the Truth. Some say he isn't a dragon at all- others that he killed the original clan leader to take her place- and yet others claim he is the original, reborn into a new form. He does not acknowledge these rumors, as they are only rumors, but there always has been something strange about the pearlcatcher. His pearl acts as a form of spirit-guide, but he is very secretive over it and only allows the dragons he trusts to see their relatives in the Beyond. They say that those who do see the Beyond never come back quite the same. Regardless of his faults, he is a loyal clan leader and works tirelessly- assuming he sleeps at all- to keep his clan running smoothly.

Most of Arvias' life is shrouded in mystery and lies, but I have spent days recording what little I can find. He was hatched during a sudden night-time, when the sun was shrouded by the moon for an hour. Many dragons claim that was a sign- an omen of evil- but Arvias only smiles gently when asked about it. He is not a bad dragon, most who've met him say, but he gives an air of Wrong and Danger to those who aren't used to him. He is often found whispering to the moon- or performing strange rituals by the sea. He says this will keep Sorneith safe. Nobody knows what he is keeping us safe from.

Arvias is a private dragon, but few have managed to get close to him. Those in his inner circle slowly grew to be like him- a symptom of a curse, some claim. I know this is not true, as our appearances are gifts from the Beyond. The only dragon who knows his truth is Aromis, but Arvias keeps their relationship quiet. They are very close, but Arvias fears judgement from other clans related to his preference for other male dragons. I remind him there is nothing to fear whatsoever, but he is not naturally trusting. Aromis is very, very patient.

____Maybe I am wrong. My old friends in Light told me I am, that I have gone mad, but I cannot risk it. I've seen things. So many things I cannot describe, brought forth by the souls trapped in my pearl. They demand release, and I cannot grant it. I know what will happen, if I do. I am willing to take on this charge. Some tell me I am delusional, that I am whispering to things that do not exist, that my rows of eyes are glaring at things that do not live, that my rituals are meaningless and repetitive. They have not seen what I have. If we are ants to the flight gods, they are mice to those in the sea and sky. I don't think they're like us. I am too afraid to ask to see their terrible faces.

____Tazun has taken to calling herself the 'Liar Queen of Sorneith'. I take it as evidence the rituals are working, but Lyneth seems to have taken it as confirmation of a superiority complex. I will not explain what I did, to her. It's for the best. Tazun has- had- a brilliant mind, and it will do well to save us. I feel no regret, but I am remorseful, even if it is for the greater good. I wonder now if the Shadowbinder is aware of our situation. I cannot be the only dragon aware of the coming days. The white hatchling is still here. The clan has taken to calling it Trinket, but I know it is not kin. I know it's only a facade. I don't trust it. Nodragon should.

____It takes time to prove oneself in any form of combat, whether it mental or physical. I realize while I am not the largest pearlcatcher, I have a certain effect on those around me which is worth taking advantage of, for those above us. The dragon gods we know are only mice to those I know, and it is my duty to keep as many dragons safe as I possibly can. This is already proving to be a challenge, but I have high hopes for my clan. They do not know my history, nor will they. It is unimportant, and we cannot let the future affect our past.

____I admit I do often wonder who I would be had I never discovered the Beyond. My eyes are shadowed, but I come here from a clan of Light- would I have been the haughty thing my kin often are? My pearl is who I am- in this, we are alike. What separates myself from my brighter-colored brothers is what I see within my pearl. My eyes may only see the present, unlike Pollux, but I have many, and each detect a movement unlike our own. I will seek the truth, though it must be alone. I sent Lyneth to record all happenings outside clan boundaries. It's a meaningless task, but I cannot risk her or any others in my court observing and possibly learning my own rituals- we cannot ever risk the Cold one from learning of our existence. It is to keep them safe. I have to keep them safe.
