Subject Theta || ''Pierre''
Amalgamate
feral | curious | waspish

You tread over a greasy, damaged memo as you sludge through the remains of the lab.
The memo reads as follows:
Entry No. five-hundred eighty nine

We are currently considering firing a scientist for the first time in quite a while thanks to a blunder they’ve made. Subject Theta has escaped the laboratory thanks to the negligence of our team; the very same insolence previously created the said subject. Many months prior, a careless dragon cut his fingertip on a scalpel and neglected the use of common sense behind laboratory gloves. He touched our experiment without thinking to practice proper procedures, and Subject Theta was created.

Today, that said dragon was also directly responsible for the escape of this valuable subject. We were able to witness first hand the creation of something wonderful, something that might have helped in the fight against creating future Emperors. The tar he touched began developing into a creature that we could not identify positively. Its DNA was frightening; the genetics were constantly changing and morphing. We couldn’t even touch the sludge anymore because of how acidic it was becoming.

The entire process potentially could’ve led to something incredible, but during testing today, our mistakes were repeated and that has never happened before. This offense is punishable by more than just job termination. Whatever we do from here on out, we have to find this experiment and reclaim it. We cannot allow it to run free, not until we truly understand what this weird organism walking the fine line between life and death truly is. We will reclaim this valuable experiment.

Through barely working eyes, you have shambled your way to freedom. Your body is still morphing and changing even as you keep treading towards murky daylight. Your vision is blurry and you can almost make out the soupy clouds that float high above your shapeless form. You feel another cognition splitting off from your first and let yourself split a bit at the seams so you can be more comfortable.

You have no name or purpose. You just wish to live a life as a creature with basic intelligence, nothing more. You have no further thought. Even as you feel your brain’s thoughts accelerate to some degree while your melting form becomes more determinate, you feel oily and dirty. Your skin burns up anything around you. You feel teeth unsheathe as the blurry rocks in front of you move.

You lunge out at the items and crunch on them, only to find that they quickly gain flavor. Your body stumbles from the recoil of the attack, and you feel your form wobbling as you fall back over, the ground around you creating fizzling sounds that you can barely hear. Shaking yourself off, you clumsily stumble forward more and more to keep walking. No point in lingering when there seems to be nothing to eat.

As you toddle across unending ground, you eat whatever is small enough to fit into your maw and attack anything larger. Big blobs of things you can barely see cower away from you when you snap at them, but you have no idea why they act so fearful of you. You can’t remember why you were pondering. Your memory just isn’t very well-developed, but you also don’t really know why you’d care.

You keep sloshing along the ground, unable to think on a deeper level, but that doesn’t seem to bother you. Even while constantly evolving and changing you seem blissfully unconcerned with how you might eventually develop into something more, if that even comes to happen. It’s so odd how you seem to be thinking both about everything and nothing, but like all things around you, you’ll forget soon enough and things will come to pass. Soon…

“What is that thing supposed to be?” The other dragons surrounded the black, tarry blob, closely examining its every feature. Epsilon peered through her crowne to gaze at the strange lifeform while the others boggled their minds over what this strange organism could even be. Was it even a dragon? What was it?

She turned to Valoran, who was circling the tarry mass and baring her teeth. She tried desperately to direct the insectlike rouge’s attention elsewhere while the clan’s leader, a morbidly curious Emperor, carefully walked up to the “blob”. He turned to the other members of his loosely organized clan. He managed such a strange posse of dragons – strange bugs, sentient galaxies, and even his daughter, a daughter of the monstrosity he’d become. But even this little creature was beyond his own imagination.

He knelt down to the blob, which to his surprise let out a small hiss and tried to attack his snout. Being so tiny it couldn’t do any real damage with its cushy limbs, but its acidic skin melted away even more of kourasi’s rotting flesh. He hissed in pain, although the noise he made was so quiet it did not alert his mate Kore to the fact that his beloved was in pain. kourasi poked the creature’s eyes and ears with his talons, still careful not to cause any wounds.

“Swirl...”, he mumbled. Epsilon, who was still trying to contend with the Bogsneak, turned back to the Emperor. “Swirl?” she parroted. “The hell’s a Swirl?” The other dragons all turned to face their leader, sensing he was about to say something very important. “This dragon has Swirl eyes,” he began. “For the cast that we are, I have never seen anything like this.” The baby walked dizzy circles around the dragons that had found it, still too dumb to really know what was happening.

He focused all his attention on the baby ooze. “It appears to have taken the shape of a Fae, but something says it will fit in here.” He nudged the slimy baby with his tail, showing it had not one, but two heads, and two tails. The other dragons gasped softly, both awed and in fear of the strange creature, and unable to really describe what it was even supposed to be. He turned back to Kore. “Where did you say you found this creature, hun?”

Kore’s green blush was hard to hide. He cleared his throat and replied, “Just outside clan territory. I couldn’t handle it due to its skin, but it just sort of… followed me here.” Kourasi, as did all the other dragons, listened intently to Kore’s explanation. Aedis growled softly from within his cave nearby, having not faced the other dragons with Kore around ever since their own scuffle all those months ago. Kore probably didn’t even know he existed anymore.

“Then it’s decided,” kourasi began. “We shall take this… ‘dragon’ in our care so that anyone else looking to reclaim or kill it will not be able to pry it from us. It belongs here, with our group of those that would not fit in anywhere else.” The other dragons remained silent, unsure of the ramifications caring for the creature would bring on the clan. They had no way of knowing what the future would bring, but it was worth a shot to care for the creature.

A few months later, red dawn fell upon a laboratory, destroyed by predatory vines and plants from an unknown source, like a curtain of death.

A memo drifts on the dry wind…

Entry No. Seven Hundred Fourty-Three

We have failed. Our laboratory has been destroyed. A swarm of plants attacked the lab earlier today. It’s only been a couple of weeks since we lost our experiment and something horrible has befallen our research. Even now as I write my fellow scientists are paying for their exploration. Why has my curiosity and by extension our curiosity been rewarded with such bitter death?

I was never in the wrong. We were never in the wrong. Our science and research was perfect and immaculate. Sure, my methods may have been harsh as [redacted], the superior scientist and clearly the most fit to run this lab, but it should have never caused our downfall. We were set to run everything in our course.

Perhaps if that accursed fool responsible for making that abomination had never been hired by my idiotic subordinates we would still be allowed to conduct our curiosity in peace. This is nothing short of an act of pure treason! Treason against us and our benelovent purposes! We only wish to cure this world and run it in our own beautiful way.

I will find and reclaim Experiment Theta even if it means i must KILL to do so.
