The Grove Warden
Keepers of the Undergrowth

These are powerful dragons that protect young groves within the Gladekeeper's domain. These combat-ready dragons usually deal with invaders to the realm. It takes great skill to be a warden; however, being strong is not enough. They must also be adept at fighting while protecting the delicate fronds of the surrounding area - no small feat. At one time, they only guarded the edges of their authority, and mostly at Plague's border, but it seems they now stretch throughout the Veridian Labyrinth.

Due to the nature of his attacks, Malakyrr usually works alone, or pairs with his familiar, Tahkin; a razorclaw long accustomed to the dragon's combat style. Malakyrr's role as a Warden is often to subdue intruders before tossing them out of the territory, but in large scale combat, he takes no prisoners. His wide attacks are initially used to quickly cull the herd of lesser combatants. Most dragons who use area attacks often fight at range either due to their casting vulnerabilities or weak defense. As a student of Majalisk, Malakyrr cannot be counted among this lot. Enemies that remain standing after the first few waves of pollen or poison, are defeated through pure melee combat - his actual preference. However, so few of such opportunities ever presented themselves that it stands to say that no one of late has ever seen this dragon engage in close combat.

Malakyrr is not honorable. He has a job to do and does it as efficiently as possible. A life that treads on the flora of his territory is merely a flickering candle waiting to be snuffed. To this effect, those who do respect the foliage will be shown the grace of his tail as he leaves to carry on his patrol. He has no desire for chitchat, so talking your way out of a confrontation is a fool's errand. He spares no words for vermin.

Tahkin knows Malakyrr's history, and has lived a parallel life. He stays and serves the dragon, but has no delusions about his position. They are not friends that laugh over drinks and enjoy each other's company; nor would he ever wish them to be. Their efficiency and teamwork are satisfying enough.

They say all guardians have something they want to protect, but he has never felt so. He keeps this to himself for the most part. Who wants to be judged for not having a charge? Besides, it's no one's business but his own.

Arriving by assignment, Malakyrr has no real goals with Clan Tillandsia outside of the protection he is to provide. (He has no way of knowing that he was personally requested by his old mentor. What their reunion may be like is anybody's guess. Confrontation and combat seem to be common themes among Majalisk's students.)

It's awkward to say much of anything regarding the clan as Malakyrr has had limited interaction. It seems he's arrived during a transitional phase, and their leaders seem absent for some reason?

TAHKIN's mimicry skills help him excel in diversionary tactics such as military deception and false flag operations. He usually scouts ahead and steers his targets toward Malakyrr's area attacks. The rest, he culls by hand.. er talon. To say Tahkin's melee skills merely lie in slash attacks does him a disservice. He prefers quick sawing techniques that tear and fray into his opponents. A treat of satisfaction.

Author's notes:

I am really looking forward to the challenge of writing the confrontation between Mal and Maj - both AoE fighters and heavy warriors! I would think Maj would lose because his skillset is more limited, but you never know! He's a veteran for a reason. I just need to get the genes and other projects done first. So.. maybe in 2028? >_<;
I think Mal would really benefit from befriending a chemist. Anybody out there have an alchemist dragon that wants to be pals with Malakyrr, or is looking for a client to peddle their wares to? >:]
