  A B O U T
Calypso is fiery and strong-willed, with the energy to fill up a room. She can come off a bit intense toward those who don’t know her, though she means well. She is Captain Saffron’s first mate as well as his muscle, using her impressive size and assertive posture to intimidate any who bear ill will toward the Captain or his crew. Saff trusts her with his life.

She also acts as a navigator, responsible for consulting the maps and charting the safest course across the treacherous Great Sea surrounding Sornieth. Her Light alignment has blessed her with the ability to see clearly even when the brightest sun is glancing off of the waves. When she is not strolling the length of the ship, spyglass in claw, she can often be seen flying above the ship, checking their course and keeping a sharp watch for danger.

Calypso has a tendency toward restlessness, constantly looking for something to focus on and keep her moving. When things are quiet, she gets progressively more tense and agitated. It’s almost as if she’s afraid to sit still for too long.

  H I S T O R Y
Calypso found her Charge when she was very young, coming across a small walnut and attaching herself to it immediately. She planted it in the best part of the forest she could find, a place where the earth was soft and lush beneath her claws. She took care of it faithfully for many years, watching it grow from a seed to a sapling to a tree that stood higher than her horns, vowing to protect it with all of her strength.

But all the power and might of a guardian dragon could not stop the storm that blew through the forest one night, toppling her beloved tree. Part of Calypso’s soul died that day. She wallowed in anguish for years, cursing the gods for what they had taken from her until at last she made peace with the knowledge that she could do nothing to bring her tree back.

Instead of letting the loss consume her entirely, she struck out to find a new meaning for her life. Years later, she looks back and considers that perhaps it was lucky that her Charge was destroyed when it was. It freed her to pursue a life of adventure, leading her to places she would never have seen if she had stayed with her tree for the remainder of her days. These thoughts often bring with them feelings of guilt.

Though she cannot bring herself to return to the forest and see the rotting remnants of her Charge, she did take a piece of wood with her and have it sculpted into the body of the telescope she keeps with her always.

While it does not carry the depths of the Charge feelings she had come to know, it is a reminder of some fond memories. She keeps the telescope in careful order, oiling the wood and polishing the lenses and brass fittings regularly. It brings her some measure of peace.
