Once upon a time, there was a pirate captain with a beautiful ship and a great crew. He was proud and vain, but loved his crew like family, and when his own son was born, he loved him above all else. He wanted to retire, to raise his son away from the violence of piracy. He had enough gold to sustain him, his family, and his whole crew for many years. But it was not to be- when he was young, he had angered a sea witch, and she had returned to take her revenge.

She took his wife, drowned his crew, and stole his beauty, cursing him with a misshapen, tentacled body. She crashed his ship and sunk his gold, but, with the last shred of mercy in her cold heart, she left him his son. He limped his broken ship into the nearest port and begged for refuge. Luckily for him- and especially his wounded son- that port belonged to Clan Flygefisk. They took him in despite his fearsome form, gave him food and water and treated his son.

Today, he still lives in Clan Flygefisk. He now fears the sea, but his son feels a pull to it, so he stays for the boy's sake, letting him sail with the merchants or fishermen. He earns his keep by making rope and barrels, and cleaning the docks, the tasks he learned to do before he ever set sail. His pride and vanity were lost with his crew, but he enjoys telling stories of his adventures. And the sea witch? Has not been seen since. Perhaps she will return for him one day.
