A lover of all things shiny and valuable, Icarus has a nose for scavenging highly sought after treasures. His clan benefits highly from the increased trade his finds bring in, but in all honesty – Icarus does it for the praise. Who doesn’t love being the best at what they do? And handsome and wealthy to boot! He really was living the dream…
...Until he was told about the Jewelsong Tunnel. Jewelsong Tunnel is a naturally occurring narrow cavern, starting at the foot of an unnamed mountain range in the Cairnstone Rest. It snakes itself deep down into the earth so gradually, one would think they’d travelled hours in a straight line only to realize they were miles underground with no way back up except the path they’d came. But legend has it, the Tunnel does come to an end. And the jewels that line the walls of the Tunnel’s final room resonate so strangely with the cave’s moisture, they produce a lasting vibration that echoes melodically throughout the Tunnel at a steady, even pace. No dragon has ever returned from that final room – the deeper into the planet you delve, the less air there is to breathe and the more treacherous the path becomes. The heat from lava streams that surround the Tunnel could cook anything living, ancient pathogens hidden in the dirt could infect you with incurable disease...and many say the song of the jewels becomes louder and louder as you delve and can drive dragons mad with it’s ethereal rhythm. No dragon has ever returned from the final room of the Jewelson Tunnel – but since he’d learned of it, Icarus has stayed awake every night dreaming of being the first. How dangerous could it really be? How much money would one of those jewels fetch? And how much praise would he get, being the first to survive such a perilous cavern? |
