Do you hear the war drums?

Where Hadar trod, the world burned around him. This was the way since his life began. Smuggled from his nest by harpies, these creatures were once the only beings he knew. From them he learned self-loathing. He observed their art of war, and his natural hunger devoured this knowledge. Yet for all he knew and could demonstrate against their enemies, no mask was allowed to be carved. After all, a dragon should never compare to a harpy.

Each battle drew forth further ire from his true kin. He became known as a traitorous creature, not worthy of any god. If one saw this particular blue menace, they would be well advised to assemble a force to strike him down. This fiend swore his allegiance to no banner.

After many long years in thrall to the harpies, Hadar finally began to break his chains. With each link, the recollection of the devastation he wrought strengthened its hold on him. Guilt wailed and clawed away at his mental walls. And the flames characteristic of his flight erupted forth, reducing all about him to ashes. Thus ended that period of his life, and his drifter existence started.

Since that event, the essence of his magic remains untamed. Each step, it lashes out to grasp his surroundings. Cinders are relinquished in return. A hunter without purpose, he wanders.
