▾ HISTORY Sif was born in these woods. Some day, she will die in these woods. That is how life is. Sif's young life was much the same as any of her kind. She grew, hunted, and stayed caught in the rhythm of the world. The woods were rich and full. She was as happy as she could be. By some chance of fate, Sif remained untouched by the Shade for longer than many. It seemed reluctant to so much as come near her for a time--her striking size, perhaps, might have been the cause. Alas, the Shade is not easily restrained, and at the strike of true adulthood, Sif was seized. Led deep into some unknown cavern, she slumbered in a state of stasis for three centuries. Then Storm arrived. The touch of a draconic being sent the Shade into a frenzy, it seemed. Its inky tendrils leeched onto all that it could, legions of corrupted beings arising to do battle with the lone dragon that stood upon the territory. When no animals could be found, the bones of long-dead creatures were cobbled together and sent forth. As more dragons came, the Shade's incorporeal talons dug in deeper. At last, when five dragons had settled in the forest, it drew Sif to the surface. They called her the Darkest Beast, for her three-hundred year slumber had gathered so much shade about her she almost seemed to be made entirely of shadows. Powerful Shade magic leaked from her in waves, emboldening the other creatures possessed by the forbidden entity. She led the charge against the dragons unknowingly. Somehow, by divine intervention or something similar, the dragons prevailed yet, chasing the Shade back into the earth. Sif, like many of the other creatures, was freed but did not die. With a respectful dip of her head she charged into the underbrush. She has wandered Thunder Hollow ever since. 
▾ CHARACTER Though Sif is a beast who--presumably--lacks a traditional soul, she displays marked empathy and kindness. As a Dire Wolf, feelings and magic come somewhat easier to her, and she makes use of both in her occasional brushes with dragonkind. She has no permanent home and no caretaker, aside from Nimbus who will occasionally detain her for study; like every wolf she lives to live and little else. She possesses an overwhelming gratitude for dragons and has never been known, since her date of freedom, to attack one of the gods' children. In fact, she is somewhat of a guardian, patrolling sacred sites like the Glenyard, where the dead are buried. She seems to sense the approach of evildoers and miscreants and will always appear before those with bad intentions before they can enter her wards. Her warning growls are often enough to scare them off.
▾ MYTHOS Her mysterious nature attracts a certain mythological quality. Superstitions surround her much like the motes of untethered magic that she sheds. The Beastclan colonists, in particular, regard her much akin to a deity, and will leave offerings to her in stone bowls. At nightfall they will watch as she comes, like clockwork, to collect the ceremonial slabs of meat before disappearing off into the forest. Many estates have shelter and water prepared for Sif, and sometimes she will visit these generous dragons for a night or to hide from the rain. Many like to believe that her visits bring luck or prosperity; as a general rule, this is turns out to be true. So long as she is respected, Sif seems more than willing to grant a certain allowance from her magical aura.
