Sariel is an angel of death that Reimu Hakurei encounters deep within Makai in the Fallen Shrine in Highly Responsive to Prayers. She is the final enemy Reimu confronts there before returning to her shrine.

Sariel is gentle, calm, and easy to get along with, although admittedly not much for conversation. Reserved, if not simply stoic, but never cold. Beneath her composed disposition is someone who respects others and utterly values life, taking great care with both her ability and how she comes off to others. Her presence is a comforting one, and she is often invoked to bring solace to those whose loved ones have recently departed. She tends to harshly self deprecate when making mistakes and has issues with her self esteem. The guilt she has for her past actions haunt her, though being in a high position and generally held in great regard has helped elevate her somewhat.

She's quite fearsome when she’s serious, for example coming to reap one’s soul or casting judgment. But those are some of the only occasions where she intends to come off as intimidating. When defending herself, she holds no malice toward her opponents unless they are objectively wicked, and at that point it’s her duty as an angel to subdue them. She is regarded as a protector for a reason; she greatly dislikes mortal conflict and will interfere to stop any unnecessary bloodshed. It greatly saddens her to see both human and youkai alike die before their time. The introduction of the spellcard rules have largely taken this anxiety off of her shoulders, though.

Death, while unsightly, is also a necessity. So long as it is brought when it is needed, not a moment before… Nor an eternity after…
