A B O U T
Skadi’s personality is a far cry from the gentle scatterbrain that most other dragon breeds expect from a tundra. She is gruff, impassive, and nearly unshakable. Her thick mane often leads non-tundras to assume she is a male, which doesn't bother her in the least. She has a whole menagerie of creatures to take care of and is altogether too busy to care about the opinions of others.

She is the resident beastmaster, tending to the myriad familiars that supply the clan with wools, fibers, companionship, and occasionally meat. Cernunnos will sometimes bring her the higher quality pelts from their hunts to be tanned for use as clothing or shelter. Because of this, Skadi always carries the acrid scents of musk and tannins on her fur.

Despite her fairly stolid demeanor, she does genuinely enjoy the energy of younger dragons. Joey in particular comes to visit her frequently, often begging the older dragon to let her do something about that absolute disaster of a coat. Skadi refuses every time, though she does allow the occasional manicure of her claws.

H I S T O R Y
Skadi has always had a way with animals, a talent that flourished under the guidance of her parents. Even when she moved away from her birth clan, she was eager to continue working with familiars and took a position with another clan tending to a modest pack of them. However, as the days wore on she began to sense that something sinister was happening just beneath the surface.

Her instincts were unfortunately correct. Before she could act, she was violently press-ganged into being an animal handler for a brutal underground fighting ring. They bred and raised a wild array of carnivorous creatures for the sole purpose of fighting, funded by dragons with empty hearts and full pockets.

Confused and abused, she was trapped into witnessing too many atrocities to ever have a full night’s sleep again. She barely managed to escape their cruelty, though not without a myriad of scars that cut raggedly through her pelt. A few of the familiars in her current pack carry similar scars, and Skadi does her best to hide how much it hurts her.

Though she was thoroughly shaken by the experience, she did eventually find a place for herself and the familiars in her care. Her distrust has eased as the years have worn on, though she still prefers to keep largely to herself. Her animals are company enough for her.

However, she has recently begun to spend time with Ossifrage. Both dragons have a rather prickly demeanor but still seem to get along reasonably well.

A D D E N D U M
Grimbeak the owlcat is likely the oldest familiar in the clan, having been around since the clan was in Light territory under a different name, and even predating Skadi's association with the clan.

Though their original caretakers have long since moved on, the now-elderly owlcat has been a permanent fixture for decades. They mostly survived off of scraps from Cernunnos' kills, having been separated from their flock long before they learned to hunt.

They followed Cernunnos when the clan migrated to the Dragonhome, and eventually the hunter passed the owlcat's care to Skadi, who was much more knowledgeable about their needs, dietary and otherwise. Skadi isn't completely certain how many years the owlcat has left, but she is dedicated to providing them a comfortable retirement.
