When he first emerged from the egg in a blur of purple and black energy, his parents weren't quite certain what to do with him. They held off on a name for several days, sitting on it while they tried to uncover what his personality would be. They got a pretty clear idea when they found their young son playing with tiny orbs of purple magic, magic he explained he had conjured, and weren't the scenes inside fascinating? His parents could see no such scenes, and named him Rahasyamay in recognition of his mystical nature.

As he grew, he had a difficult time understanding why he was not to make bigger and bigger balls of magic whilst surrounded by other hatchlings. Still, the clan was insistent that it simply wasn't safe. So, like many young dragons before him, Rahasyamay went into the near woods and built himself a fort in the boughs of a tree. Except instead of calling it a fort, he called it his lab.

Rahasyamay engendered mixed feelings among the clan - on one claw, they were grateful for his intelligence and clear strength, and loved his curiosity and drive. But on the other, they feared he'd do himself a grave injury before he ever reached adulthood.

In the end, it wasn't before he reached adulthood, but just after. Rahasyamay reached too far, pushed too hard to surpass the limits on his sight, and summoned too much magic at once. His screams summoned the clan elders at a sprint, where they found a glowing ball of fuschia magic engulfing the little fae, trying to consume his essence entirely.

The dragon most experienced with curses and magical mishaps, Ursula, was able to halt the process, barely. The wild magic wanted so badly to devour the young dragon, but Ursula's intervention turned it into a flicker along his skin, grasping hands that fed off his magical ability and nothing more. She tried to starve it out, giving it only enough access to Rahasyamay to keep it from turning on the rest of him, but not enough that it could continue to grow.

Her magic was not fast enough to stop his eyes from being opened, all of them, and when he regained consciousness, Rahasyamay babbled, unable to sort out the present reality from all the possible futures and distant presents he was now able to see.

It took months before his mind adapted to the new feedback, months during which he required careful watching and tending by all the clan's most adept magic users. When he did, however, Rahasyamay seemed to have abruptly grown up overnight. He was still incredibly confusing to many outsiders, but the things he knew and saw saved the clan from disaster more than once.

Then a Shade-touched Sprial arrived in the clan. Sarkis and the other leaders were strongly considering sending Domantas on his way, but Rahasyamay attached himself to the wandering spiral, and insisted he stay. It was Rahasyamay's idea to build a second lab, and when his parents fretted, Rahasyamay promised that this time he could see clearly what he was doing.

The lab was built, Domantas allowed to stay, but not without the supervision of a far more stable dragon. [name] was unwilling to watch Rahasyamay feed himself to forces beyond his understanding a second time.
