Wind Festival-10 years ago
The two dragons swooped down towards the plains of the Zephyr Steppes, managing to locate Cottoncloud's burrow. They rested beside a river, smiling up at the stars... and each other.
"So... how was the show?" Cottoncloud said.
"It was cool! Fringe's moves are the best! I don't think that melody will ever leave my head. You?"
Cottoncloud thought for a moment. "Well I guess it... reminded me about a lot of things. Like the opening with the music box? It reminded me of the music box I had as a kid! And the flutes kinda reminded me of the old festival shows. And it just sounded so... wistful. And I had all these flashbacks, and memories, and... it kinda reminded me of you."
"Me?"
"Yeah. The festivals we went to... and when we climbed to the top of Reedcleft Ascent...and when we first met. D'you remember that?"
Levanter laughed a little bit. "Yeah. Another thing I can't forget. You knew my family was "scary", and you still approached me. Asked me if I was nice, right after combat training too!"
Cottoncloud nudged her a bit. "You were being silly too! You weren't exactly being subtle about yourself. 'You can tell me aaaaanything! And eeeeverything!'"
Levanter smiled. "Well, you still bought it! You clown!"
Cottoncloud laughed a little, before their smile wavered. "Anything, right?"
"Mhm? But you don't have to, you know I was joking..."
"Well... I guess there's one thing I was thinking about. I don't think I'm a girl. I think I'm a boy."
Cottoncloud looked at Levanter. "Is that... alright? You still... like me, right?"
Levanter clutched one of Cottoncloud's talons.
"I don't like "girls" or "boys". I like you."
The winds were quiet that night on the Zephyr Steppes. But Cottoncloud liked it. It was nice to spend some time with his mate. He and Levanter sat near their burrow, staring at the clan they started together. [/transparent]
"You're right. Things won't be the same."
"But sometimes when I close my eyes and listen...it feels like I'm still there. With you."
