Ursula
The one left behind...
The one left behind...
▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁
"Please, please reconsider!"
She watched with wide eyes as her mother fell to the ground. Ursula felt like it could've easily been her mother's head rolling across the floor and her blood splattered on the ground like how the beads from her necklace had been scattered.
"I beg you, please. My mate. Please!" Her mother cried, crawling towards her mate in tears.
"Enough! We could've had more hatchlings in future if you had listened. We don't need this one." He growled, spreading his wings in anger.
"I hurt you my mate. I apologise, but enough is enough. Do you think this is easy for me too? Our young to be abandoned and left to die in the cold whilst we care for our own hides?! I can barely care for myself, much less you!" His tail whipped behind him against the cold stone wall as he watched his once dearest bleed all across the floor as she begs him. Pitiful.
Ursula could not take it anymore. Fear had kept her silent but frustration now ruled her emotions. Hot wet tears filled her eyes and she cried with all her might, rolling and tumbling around like a hatchling having their first tantrum.
Her parents had been shocked by her outburst. Before her kind mother could pick herself up, her father's powerful jaws picked her up by the scruff of her neck. In one swift movement, he had her at the entrance of the cave and took flight into the cold dark night. Leaving his mate weeping on the floor as her life slowly ceased to exist.
----
With his tiny offspring's body within his jaws, he hesitated briefly before he hurled her small frame into the snow with a flick of his neck. He prayed that it would be a quick painless death, one where she had fallen into slumber and not realised that she had left.
Dragging his feet and his heavy heart, he turned away from his beautiful daughter, hoping they would one day meet again.
----
Ursula had wept and wept, three days two nights under a small rock formation that had protected her from the blizzard raging outside. Her previously hot tears now felt ice cold. Her tiny wings previously wrapped around her frame as she shivered from the cold now somewhat warm yet numb.
She could not bear it much longer, she needed to leave her safe haven. It may protect her from the extreme climates outside, but it could never provide her with nourishment. She needed to hunt.
Struggling weakly against the cold smooth stone, Ursula managed to get herself on her feet. She had vowed to herself that she would return to her mother's side. No matter how long it took. No matter how difficult it would be. She would become stronger and triumph over what life has to throw at her. The memory of her beautiful crying mother will forever be ingrained deep within her mind, motivating her to return the favour to the man she once called father.
