Lichen was already firmly into middle age when the Gaolers reinstated the order of the Seekers. Originally assigned to the Keepers, Lichen is not known amongst his kind so much for his rank or skill at guarding as he is for his experiments and tests. He is a scientist at heart, examining both dead and living Shade in the hopes of finding what makes them tick. When word began to spread of Gaolers leaving their icy confines, he readily enlisted with the Seekers, hoping to gain more and varied samples to study.
Lichen calls his group the 'Cadaver Recovery Sub-Order', although most of the others just refer to themselves as the 'Cadavery' on suggestion from Avogadro. He left his home with three other Gaolers: Kaavie, his second-in-command and ex-Sentinel; Avogadro, a rather exciteable but gentle soul who wasn't good enough at combat to be put into a team that would regularly face it; and Peat, who came to them unnamed, a very young child ready for her first excursion. An Ice flight clan informed them that Lightning dragons were often the most scientific, and as such their little clan has settled in the desert, keeping cool in underground lairs and with powerful ice magic.
His marzal is a pest. It screams nearly constantly, stabs people while they're sleeping, and runs through the lab when they're doing dissections. Kaavie has nicknamed it 'Demon'.
