Chapter 9:
Maximus stood opposite his elder sibiling, Helio, in the training circle.
"Do we have to do this now? The water in the lake is so warm and the sun is so hot. Why don't we try again after when the sun goes down? It'll be cooler then," he groaned.
"Yes, and you will be too tired from having swam all day. Or it will be too close to feeding time. Or you will be wanting to join your clutchmates in a game of Stones and Gems. No, Maximus. We do this now. Prepare yourself." Helio crouched and made a dashing movement to the left, only to suddenly dart to the right. With a quick stroke of his wings, Helio lifted off the ground and brought both of his claws down on Maximus' back. A splash of berry juice in the shape of two claw prints glistened on his scales.
"No fair. I wasn't ready. Lets try it again," the younger dragon complained.
"All right, but if you don't at least try, I will tell Mother and you can face her wrath," Helio remarked with a grin spreading on his face.
"Fine. But I was only holding back since I didn't want to humiliate my 'Avath. You get touchy when you lose." Maximus dipped his paws into two buckets filled with berry jam.
Laughing, Helio gestured the young dragon forward, "The day I lose to you, dear Heart, will be the day they put me out to pasture. Ready? Go!"
