""Out here, everything hurts.""
╭
Artemis is a dragon notorious for her good looks and crass actions. Originally from the Tribe, she idolised some of the worse influences, and seemed to pick them up. She’s ideal for her station in the Sandshark crew though; her strength and way with animals results in getting work done with pure horsepower. Or camelpower. Whatever those Shadhavars really are. Her rig is The Beast, a modified stolen train car that holds beds, food, water, ammo and a kitchen. Often the Beast lugs an extra cart full of shrapnel or broken-down rigs, however due to its size and weight it is not a fast rig. The beast is mainly coal powered, as Musk has tried putting an engine on it, but it is not strong enough to do anything but lighten the load on the shadhavars’ backs. Artemis’ teams of shadhavars are a set back to Musk’s adrenaline-filled goals, but even he understands the need for a constant supply of food and water and shelter in the scorching Barrens. No matter where the scouts roam or who they bring down, it is to the Beast that they retire, wherever he may have ended up while they were racing. Artemis doesn’t often get into the fight, but that does not mean she is an unworthy adversary. Nicknamed ‘beefcake’, by her peers, her times of loading the metal, the rigs themselves, and even helping pull The Beast mean she is rippling with muscles. No one has yet to beat her in an arm-wrestling match. She has one of the longest throwing arms of the crew, but she is still working on aim. Temper still hasn’t forgiven her for the rock-in-her-face incident.

It was on. Musk had drunk too much yet again and he was keen for a fight. Temper sat on the sidelines, eager to sit out and watch the sport. Avox had decided to go and get some more alcohol, so it was just her. Musk himself was challenging her, showing off his strength by kicking around the rocks. The bandage wrapped around her arm was tight, to staunch the flow of blood. A previous injury, a bite from one of the shadhavars had split the skin. Musk didn’t care. “Come on! Take me on!” Musk threw his hands wide. So it had begun. Artemis finished the last of her mug of rum and threw it at him. He ducked, laughing wildly as she stood up. If it had been a real fight, a wrestle, he would have lost immediately. Her 30 metres and 7 tons of pure imperial easily dwarfed the skydancer… but their arms were the same size. Temper kicked a rock into the centre of the gathering, laughing and hollering. Musk was circling it now, beating his chest. Artemis laughed. “A ****-ant like you, I’ve beaten you 5 times this week! What makes you think you will not lose tonight!” She kneeled by the rock, placing her right elbow on top. Musk laughed, a harsh sound. The reflection of the fire in his goggles made his gaze look alight. “This time, sweet cakes, I have you pinned down. Raise the stakes.” Artemis loosened the bandage around her arm. “Stakes, what stakes are there to run tonight? I own most of the supplies we have.” Musk sat down, rolling up his sleeve. “You win, you ride with me tomorrow. Avox takes on the beast. You lose, I ride with you tonight.” He winked, a hint that Artemis did not miss. “I win nothing!” Artemis retorted angrily. “Both sides of the coin, you win!” “Is it a date then?” Artemis spat at him. “The Beast is mine, and Avox can’t handle the animals.” Avox himself piped up with an agreement. “I win, the next rig is mine.” Musk began to express his disapproval but Artemis thumped the rock with her fists. “Next. Rig. Is. Mine. No more fire and showy trick, Musk. I want a two-wheeler, nimble enough to herd the animals. I also want a lock for the Beast.” “And if you lose?” “Don’t even need to think about it, cause I’ve already won.” Artemis spat in her hand and held it out. Musk grinned. “I’m already thinking about our date.” Spitting in his hand, he slapped his palm against hers and rested his elbow against the table.

Two weeks later, a grinning Musk hailed her over. He had seemed to forget all about that night, and so Artemis had let it slide. And yet, amalgamated from the accumulated junk in the scrapyard, was her shiny chrome two-wheeler. “Needs a name, Arty. Give it a name, a name our kids would be proud of riding.” Musk slapped her arm with his sling, the break still healing. Arty returned the slap to the back of his neck. “Keep that arm out of the dust while it heals, you git. I’ll check it later tonight.” Another wink, and Artemis had to resist the urge to break his other arm.
