Yaffa was brought into her clan the way all lost hatchlings are brought into a clan - stumbling and alone, no family to speak of. She came at just the right time, however, the leader of the clan and her mate with whom she can have no child found a baby - just a little thing, as pink as the blossoms of the tree they protect. The dragons had been aching for a hatchling of their own, so a pretty little imperial, pink enough to pass as a member of their line and young enough to know no other family, no one would ever think her egg hatched in another nest. Her parents were doting, adoring, but mindful of the responsibility they were burdening her with by bringing her into the nest of the clan's leader. As she grew, Yaffa learned to care for the tree, for the hatchlings, learned to make hard decisions, learned to understand the need for warriors and to communicate with the forest and delegate, learned to speak to other clans and the more she learned the more she was unsure she was cut out for such a life. Unsure she wanted to be the one in charge of everything. Unsure she was ready for so much. Just as much, she remains unsure she's ready to give that up either. It is the only life she's ever prepared for. What else is there for her? Will her mothers approve if she looks for another course?
