Action hails from the outskirts of Terraclae, where she gained an extensive but secluded education within the ancient libraries of her ancestors. The Terraclae is a thriving, interconnected community, but her family had been long disgraced by the time the quarry became too stifling for her to bear. "Heeeeeeeyyy Action?" said Imriel. She threw a pillow at Action's head for good measure.

"HUH, what???"

"Do you wanna go draw obscenities on a wall with me? Haggar is busy."

Action lay in her nest, not moving. Maybe if she pretended she was still asleep, Imriel would forget about her and leave. This had never worked on previous occasions.

"Ooh hey what's this on your desk? An interesting scr - "

"Aah don't touch that!! Please!! Sorry!!" yelped Action, sitting bolt upright. "Um. How'd you get in here anyway?"

"I have a master key to all the dorms in this building! So do you wanna come with?"

"Not really, no," Action said, trying to ignore this terrifying revelation. "Also, why am I always your second choice for these things?"

Imriel turned away from where she'd been eyeing the unique, 5000-year-old, magically preserved, exceedingly powerful scroll.

"It's 'cause you always say no," she said, shrugging her wings. She grinned.

"That's not true - "

"You said no this time."

"That's diff - "

"I guess I'll go ask, uhhhh, xXxBluWaspxXx then." Imriel's pronunciation was irritatingly perfect.

"You'll end up drawing obscenities on someone's face instead, if you ask them"

"That's the idea!"

"Okay fine I'll do it but - "

"Hell YEAAHHHH corruptioooon!!!" Imriel threw open Action's door and yelled this down the corridor, quite probably waking up every single fellow student. She cackled, equally loudly.

Well. Action would deal with that later.

"We are going to do so so much graffiti. In the LIBRARY!"

"Could you maybe not confess to everyone before you've even started?" asked Action, getting out of her nest and giving her mane a quick brush.

"Hmm. Too late!"

"Also can we not draw stuff that's too obscene?"

"Yeah yeah, just enough to be annoying, not so much that we end up on rubbish duty for a month."

"I'd rather not be on trash duty at all, let alone a mo - "

"Let's go before you change your mind!"

Sometimes, she's afraid of being forgotten. When she keeps her mouth closed for hours more than intended, she worries. She likes the quiet. She likes music too, but the quiet is safer. In music, she might forget herself. Forget her own silence, forget the box she thinks she's forced in. It's a box she made for herself. It is full of worries. You will be forgotten. They are not here for you. You are a burden. Nothing you do is right. You do not care for them enough. They do not care for you.

Every time, every single time, she is proved wrong. She is loved. They care. They know about the box, and they have their own. They're not the same shape, but they're still boxes. Imriel has a little black dog that follows her wherever she goes. Haggar lumbers through quicksand. And every day, the two rip open her box. While in return, she helps to chase the dog away, and spends time cleaning scales caked in sand. They are not the same as her or each other, and sometimes help doesn't always work. But it's okay. They keep trying. Even if the boxes never leave. Even if she still thinks she'll be forgotten. That she deserves it. Sometimes, they give her the strength to smash the box herself. To listen to music, without fear.
