Nightmare

Hatched confused and lonely as a Nocturne in Light territory, Nightmare couldn't figure out where he belonged or what his purpose was. He spent many nights crying alone, feeling useless and abandoned. He was often picked on by other hatchlings and even laughed at by some adults. As he grew up, he still felt lonely and longing for a clan and family. Yet he was too eccentric and chatty to attract a mate. After years of wandering alone, he heard about dragons going into the Wyrmwound and emerging stronger, and figured he had nothing to lose. He emerged an Aberration and finally had company!

With someone to finally talk to that would never tire of him, Nightmare realized what his purpose in life was! To cheer hatchlings! To make sure no one ever had to live the pain he had, not so long as he was around. He sees himself as a sort of dreamcatcher, meant to absorb all the badness and sadness of the little ones. He wanders Sornieth looking specifically for lonely hatchlings, and finds any way he can to help them feel less alone. Whether it's simply company they need, someone to make them laugh, or someone to poke fun at to make themselves feel better, he's more than happy to oblige!

This behavior drew some attention, especially from overprotective parents who thought he was odd at best, but possibly even unsafe! There were some rumors circulating about this maniacal character stalking little hatchlings who had no proper guardians, which eventually caught the attention of Shield, a Plague Aberration. As a protective motherly sort, she felt it was her responsibility to seek out this creature and find out his true intentions. And when she found him, he was nothing as she'd imagined. She watched with stunned awe as this towering Light Aberration allowed four little Plague-lings to jump all over him, sinking their growing teeth into his scales, and clawing him furiously. He didn't flinch or bat them away, just allowed them to go at it and kept yelling "Ow! You've got me!" in a feigned terror. After the fake fight where he pretended to expire as they flitted away with pride, she confronted him.

After a short conversation, she learned all she needed to know. Those who rumored about him simply didn't understand him. He was harmless. He was simply different. But he had a heart of gold, reserved especially for other lost souls like him--like those she herself sought to love and protect. And with that, they both found another to fill the emptiness inside. He finally found a mate who could understand him, and a clan who could accept him for who he is, and unbelievably this all happened on his third birthday!
