 "Decay's Story" A ragged gasp tore through the eerily silent night as a lone dragon gulped for air to fill lungs that had not been used in ages. Pale pink eyes fluttered open to take in their surroundings as the figure struggled to sit upright. With the help of the light of the moon the figure was able to take in that they were sitting alone in a recently dug up grave. A quick glance down at their body told them that this had indeed been their resting place but they had no memories of who they were or how long they had been buried at this site, but the questions they really wanted answered was who had raised them from the dead and why had they just left them before they had woken up. With shaky arms they pulled themselves up from their grave and shook of the dirt from their scales and feathers. They picked a direction and just started walking hoping they would find someone who could answer their questions. Once the sun had risen in the sky it did not take the freshly risen dragon long to notice that they carried a not to pleasant smell with them. Without another thought they started a new search for water in hopes of getting rid of the stench that plagued them. After stumbling into a stream and a much needed bath the found ridding themselves of the smell of rot and decay would not be as easy as they had thought, they did however notice that the closer they were to a patch of plants the less of the aroma they could smell. After taking their break to clean themselves and make some lovely adornments from the plants to mask their scent they were back on their way to finding the answers they needed. It had been at least a month of nonstop walking before they not started to notice that their body was not handling the strain of being forced to move very well. The rot had started to become out of control leaving huge chunks of missing flesh where once sat gorgeous green scales and stunning blue feathers. Tears fell from their eyes as they took in the damage they had done and once again wondered why someone would bring another back from the dead and turn them into a monster. They prayed to whatever deity would listen for a way to stop the decay their body was going through as the gently ran their claws over the deep wounds on their legs. Someone must have been listening to their prayers because within seconds a magical current rushed through them and their eyes began to glow, the gash they had just been touching sealed itself closed with a massive gemstone. They power faded and the figure looked over the wound with wonder before moving onto the next spot and hoping they could use the magic again. With another flare of magic that wound was now closed as well. With hope now restored in the dragon they set about closing up all of their open sores thankful that they now had a way of stopping the rot from taking everything away. It was while they were patching themselves up they met the dragon who would take them under her wing and teach them how to control their new gifted powers and how they can use it to help any fellow risen dragons their clan stumbled upon. It was one of the newer risen dragons the clan took in that finally gave them a name although it wasn’t a very clever name to be sure (not that anyone could say the young risen was any good at naming anything seeing as he named himself Zombie). After Decay had found a new family, a new name and a way to be able to help those like them they slowly started to forget about finding the one who had risen them so long ago. There really was no reason for Decay to go digging in their past and unearth things that had been buried so long ago and possibly ruin everything good they had going for them now. Sure sometime when the lay wake in the night They are brought back to the memory of waking up on that dark night all alone with no one to help them but all it takes is to look around at their little clan of misfits and it reminds them that isn’t the case anymore, now they are surrounded by by others. |
