Biography

Noun. (plural dwellers). An inhabitant of a specific place; an inhabitant or denizen [i.e. forest dweller].

Pretty interesting impulse buy for 20kt tbh. I'm not sure what exactly 'Dweller' is, but I do like the new Marva stuff! Old name was Rauru and I gave him Daub + Underbelly 04/04/19. I was inspired by the new masques as well as Trevenant's pokedex entries and general Lost Woods vibes from LoZ.

UPDATE: Figured out how to give him a lil tufty tail :)

For Dweller:

Crown me again under the ancient oaks, lay in my hands a bough of ash, gild my brow in emerald and on my chest place an iron lock. Brew pots of tea, blueberry and honey, mantle me in chestnut, ochre, and set me on the redstone path. Sleep in a silent sea, dream of the desert plateau, but guide me again to the treetop bower, lay me to sleep to dream of my kings. Suspend me and listen, and when I die in the autumn look for me after the winter’s defeat.

It seems our Lair attracts all manner of weird and wonderful creatures. Perhaps it is because we are so close to the heart of the Behemoth. Regardless, I do not believe I have ever seen a creature quite like this one. I have chosen to name him Dweller because he came to us from the depths of the trees. He has not shown any intention of ever leaving them for long however. When I conduct my little forays into the Unknown, I am just as intrigued by this beast as I am by NightVale and Contagion. With Dweller though, these observations are few and far between. He comes as goes as he pleases and bothers no one, provided they do not cause harm to any of the trees. He is not so harsh on the little ones since they know no better.

Dragons lucky enough to spot him have informed me of his wanderings. They tell me that his paths always form the same exact pattern, that he regards their prying eyes with the same mannerisms every single time. He stops to watch their patrol, drawing his sword partially as if analysing any potential threat. Then, he nods, sheathing his sword and continuing on his way. I do not think he can speak, but legends say that his roar is as soft as the whispering wind. His is a strike that is straight and true. Time’s arrow marches on, yet Dweller himself is exempt from following its trail. Of course, an old girl like me has the right to inject a little whimsy of her own now and then.

Dweller pays particular heed to the call of Yggdrasil, our very own personification of Nature incarnate. Most of my own observations are usually made during their interactions with each other. Dweller displays a peculiar reverence when in Yggdrasil's presence, and the Other treats him as one treats a dear but subordinate companion. They seem to communicate by writing strange symbols in the dirt, similar to the ones found on the Monolith. It is for this reason that I like to think of Dweller as a Tree Beast, an Ent if you will. A moss-covered protector, tasked with looking after the Labyrinth and punishing those who dare raise a claw against it. Perhaps once upon a time he too was an interloper, lost to the maze of the forest. I fancy Gladekeeper had a hand in his creation, given his amalgamation of body parts. I love Our Mother dearly, but her hospitality wears out all too soon.

He dwells between the trees and thus he is known as Dweller. He is static, a creature with strong, precise movements patrolling at dawn and again at dusk. Again and again, by the same path with eyes both empty and filled with something unreadable, swirling like a maelstrom, drowning those who dare look too long.

But drown in what it's hard to tell. There's no malice to him, no sinister intent. It's just quiet. An air of something unfathomably ancient clings to him, reflected in the bright green light shining over his forehead.

It's clinging tightly to the green guise and armour he's crafted from. Something that goes beyond what normal dragons can comprehend. He follows strict moral laws, that much is clear. He will only break from his designated path if someone tries to destroy the forest in which he dwells.

For he is the Dweller, he belongs amongst the trees. His energy comes from them or from the earth over which he treads. The principles that guide him are both simple and unchanged by intent or excuse; do not harm the trees.

EXTRA LORE SNIPPETS:

Remark of the Pestilence

'...It seems your Mother has given you a servant, dear Vitality. Though I am pleased for you I cannot help but take offence. You and I are made from the same mortal substance, given Breath for the same immortal destiny. Our Mothers have bound Us to this World and We watch over it together. It is Our birthright. Is it not Our duty then to keep the scales of Decay and Life balanced? To keep intact the truce which binds Plague and Nature together so thinly?

Where is my servant, Vitality? Surely it is not hidden behind that false notion of equality you hold so dear. Come now, it’s only fair. We both know how devoted I am to fairness. It would pain me so to tell my Mother that I am not being given a fair deal. Dare you anger a Deity with the power to destroy yours?

...Your silence speaks volumes, Vitality. I am a guest in your Home yes, but as a guest I am entitled to get what I want. I want a servant, Vitality. I will get a servant, even if I have to make one myself.'

URNgh5y.jpg?1.jpg The Lost Woods is a maze-like area of a confusing forest that has made several appearances throughout The Legend of Zelda series. Its layout is usually designed to make anyone who enters to become irreversibly lost, and the only way to exit the forest is by navigating it in specific directions. In certain games, it is said that if people wander in the forest for too long, they can turn into a monster such as a Skull Kid, a Stalfos, or a Deku Scrub.
