The young fisher knows the tale well: for a blessed catch, one must give an offering to the Elementalist, to ask for her gift. So they do just that, shaping a mound of sand and laying feathers upon it, planting sticks of incense and lighting them, spirals of smoke coiling, smelling of kelp and palm and mangrove root. The fisher prays, whispering not for a full net, but for safety. The trip out to sea is risky; should the winds turn cruel, their boat could capsize. And then who would be there for them, alone as they are on the empty waves?
The thought is chilling. Anxious, the fisher considers turning back. Then a shadow above catches their eye, and they look up.
Upon the cliffs stands a figure, wreathed in verdant smoke, red ribbons swaying with the wind. They meet the fisher’s eyes. The fisher stares back.
With a smile, they raise their claws in greeting, and the fisher realizes they would not be alone on the waves. She would be watching. She always did.
And so the fisher pushes their boat out and sails beyond the cliffs, and the Elementalist keeps her eyes on them, and the palm trees rustle as they await the fisher’s return.
