‘She dances with death like it’s nothing, leaves everyone she meets entranced by her grace’

Born on a day where love is commonplace, where the air practically crackles with romance and affection, a day when all of Sornieth seems smitten, completely happy and at peace with each other.

She, was not quite like the rest.

She hatched from an egg left alone to it’s own devices, born to a clan who took on refugees and travellers alike, a clan who were no strangers to the affection that so plagued the land.

She however, did not share this want for love and care. She was perfectly happy to be on her own, watching from the sidelines as the notoriously infamous day ran its course.

Valentine’s Day; her birthday.

She’d watched as gifts were cheerfully traded back and forth, as smiling couples took to the sky together for a romantic flight across the forest, hoping for a glimpse of the sunset.

She hadn’t understood the pull of it all, hadn’t been entranced or ensnared as all of those around her seemed to be.

Sure, she liked the cuteness of it, and it was nice enough to watch, but it was not for her. No. The darker side of this holiday seemed a thousand more enticing to the Skydancer.

The breakups and the heartaches; the yearning for something that couldn’t quite be found; the sheer desperation for something so much as a shred as brilliant as the connection everyone else shared that day.

It was glorious, even more so than the sappy theme of love.
