Duke Hard Roc Teller of Tales | steady * temperamental * wise ~”FOOLS.” Always speaks at maximum volume. Always. Indoor voice? WHAT INDOOR VOICE WE ARE OUTSIDE, YOU FOOL. Duke was mistaken as a huge chunk of raw obsidian by Rumor. A notion he was quick to disabuse the Fae of at great length over the course of many, many, many, many days. Resulting in sleepless nights for the Clan Leader as snappers do not sleep. He has not left ever since. As a snapper, Duke finds it hard to remain stationary and thus spends his days traveling between his own clan and Kin's where he is acting auspistice between the aforementioned Matriarch and the rambunctious Rod. An endless, frustrating task which is well-rewarded by the honor of handling Kin's pearl. Any and all cracks about 'pearl polishing' will have you get sat on. Duke is heavy. You have been warned. Duke absolutely adores flowers, and tends to hoard them like a Guardian. However he will inevitably be tempted to try and sit on them. His furious roars when they get crushed are legendary. Duke has a rather grouchy demeanour, but his heart is big and kind. Hatchlings flock to him in the evenings for one of his long, complex bedtime stories, which without fail spin into epic tales spanning the course of several weeks or even months. He's incredibly intelligent, speaks multiple languages, and possess a rich vocabulary -resulting in rather colorful cursing. When Ain, Rod's son, is brought in from Kin's Clan and assigned to him as his charge Duke is apprehensive to say the least. What is he supposed to do with such a shy, tiny little thing? But he cannot refuse his Kin, so he agrees. Even though Ain was brought into the Windshade clan for his own good, in hopes the hatchling will have a chance to grow and spread out his wings at his own terms, Ain finds it hard to settle and is horribly homesick. His appetite flags and nobody has heard him utter a single word and Duke fears this might have been a horrible mistake, and Ain will have to brought home in the morning. Still means Ain will have to endure one more night, so Duke sets out to try and make it as pleasant as he can. By telling him a bedtime story. A very special story, in his softest, gentlest voice (which is still pretty loud). Ain loves it, and prompts him for more, and falls asleep curled up against Duke chest. Needless to say he does not go home in the morning.
