Biography
South China Tiger
Current Status: Critically Endangered

Why They Matter
South China tigers remind us that our general tiger population is rapidly decreasing, and that the threat against them is urgent. Due to being deemed as extinct in the wild, they can only be found in zoos located in South Africa, where they can hopefully be bred in captivity and reintroduced back into nature. Despite China outlawing tiger hunting in 1979 and declaring the South China tiger's survival a priority in 1995, even if individuals remain, there is no existing protected areas that can keep them healthy or provide enough space. Had they still been in the wild, the tigers would face the sub-tropical evergreen forest of South China, which is highly fragmented.
How We Can Help
Although a majority of us may not have the ability to directly prevent threats posed against endangered animals much like the tiger, a few simple clicks of a button may make even the slightest difference. Consider clicking here, where you will be able to sign for the Vanishing Species Act, which will urge Congress to take action! It is no cost at all, and they have nearly reached their goal. Whether you choose to spread awareness, donate, etc., anything will help. Your input matters!
