INCIDENT DESCRIPTION:

(Note: events reconstructed from evidence at the scene & subsequent incident.)

Gathering party set out at 5:12AM on March 23rd. Followed the usual route, up until reaching Crown Hill where they deviated towards Mhairow territory - presumably spotted movement, or heard a suspicious sound. Expedition leader Tejat investigated and discovered the body of Mhairow border guard Alzirr and his killer, an undying featherback boar (there are featherback sightings dating back to November - same one?).

The order of events here are unclear, but hunter Lynx was killed and Tejat gravely injured by the featherback before they were able to put it down. Presumably, the commotion attracted the attention of Mhairow scout Zavijah and border guard Caesium; evidence seems to suggest there was a misunderstanding in which they believed the gathering party to have killed Alzirr, and so attacked. Tejat was killed in this attack, and Zavijah and guard Dubhe injured.

In the confusion, Tejat and Alzirr, both Imperials, were not separated quickly enough and formed a Tier 1 Emperor. It appears as though Dubhe and Caesium attempted to hold it off as their compatriots (gatherers Ancha and Cephei, Zavijah) fled to either get help and/or send warning. However, the Emperor quickly overpowered them, and with Dubhe's death became a Tier 2. It then pursued the fleeing dragons towards Mhairow, the nearest settlement, and caught up to them before they could warn anyone. Thankfully, most of the clan survived due to being primarily underground, but a large number of Mhairow guards were killed.

The messenger they attempted to send to us as warning, Zaurac, was killed en-route - we presume by the Emperor, but his body was discovered only a few days ago (28/03) and scavengers had already found him; cause of death is uncertain.

STATEMENT:xx I was basically on the other side of the territory when it happened, but I saw a flare go up and rushed back. Time I got there, it was... it was just, carnage. I've never seen anything like it. We were so, so lucky it was still early - not many folks up and around yet, y'know? Just the dawn guards, a couple others. They were... I'm not gonna lie. I saw what that thing'd done, I saw there was nobody still standing. I ran. I'm not proud, but... I'm alive. Alive to protect Mhairow another day. And I wouldn't be, if I hadn't. There was nothing I could do. Nothing anyone could do. I can't...just...you folks at the Outpost. I still don't understand how you did it. That thing was unstoppable.

STATEMENT:xx I was about to leave for the week - I am a travelling merchant - and Plaguebringer, I am glad I had been running late. I was not the first to spot them - Thuban and Subra, two of our guards, had already seen the, um, I suppose the fleeing party? The-- the thing was not yet in sight. I suppose they assumed it was some other problem - bandits, maybe. I mean, nobody expects... expects that. We are very careful. I saw... Thuban ran up to them. I do not know if they managed to exchange words. The, um, the coatl - they-- oh, she? She was lagging behind. I do not know why. She... the thing crested the hill. I... I did not see any more than that. Subra was doing her best to get everyone underground, and I was not about to refuse, but...my friend, Keid, was still up there, and I did not wish to leave him behind. I was the last to retreat below the surface. Nobody... nobody who had remained above survived. I...I cannot imagine how the Outpost fared. You have my deepest sympathies.
