Vox
Translator/Ambassador
<Joined after Synth's Reign>

“I am uncertain of what you are trying to say,” came a monotone voice.

“Pardon? Could you try speaking more… normal?” was the reply in a humming tone.

The Fae and Coatl were both getting frustrated now, unable to tell what the other was saying. Vox could tell the Fae was frustrated by the way his crest shivered and dipped slightly. He himself had crests too, though he wasn’t a Fae. He understood the Coatl’s humming speech easily as well, since he too could speak in humming tones. Vox knew many languages from all over Sornieth.

The spotted cobalt Bogsneak dragged himself out of the dense underbrush and bamboo and made his way over to the arguing dragons. Both were unable to understand each other simply because of the breed they had been born and raised as. Both the Fae and Coatl fell silent as Vox approached, perhaps intimidated by the heavyset dragon covered in circuit-board patterns that seemed to appear out of nowhere.

“I can help you,” Vox said, perking his crest forward slightly in a friendly gesture to the Fae, then repeating his message to the Coatl in a hum.

“Oh, thank the Eleven,” the Coatl sighed with relief, her posture relaxing. “I was beginning to think this was going to be a waste of time.”

“You can understand her?” the Fae asked, his crest displaying his curiosity despite his monotone voice.

“I can understand many things and many languages, and I couldn’t help but overhear the trouble the two of you were having with communication,” Vox replied. “So what is it you would like to say?”

Vox made his way through the forest of bamboo again, leaving the two happy dragons behind. They had been set up on a blind date, only to find they couldn’t understand each other. After a bit of translation and explaining, Vox had been able to help them learn how to communicate with each other, then promptly left, not wanting to interrupt their date.

Miscommunication was one of the worst things ever, in Vox’s opinion. That’s why he had taken it upon himself to learn every language he could. He always wanted to be able to understand others, since that was what languages were for. It pained him to see fellow dragons unable to communicate with each other effectively, and he frequently butted into other’s conversations to help translate.

Being a Bogsneak, Vox has both tone to his voice as well as a pair of crests that can be used to express himself. Despite most Bogsneaks preferring to live in solitary and avoid other dragons, Vox didn’t mind living alongside others, and he took it upon himself to help those who needed it whenever he could. His ability to speak many languages led him to become a translator, and he frequently joins ambassador meetings to help the flow of communication go as smoothly as possible.
