• clan guard, storyteller, and mentor • sworn pacifist • feathers & fur are very scraggly • probably has a british accent • trident is mostly just for show nowadays, he only uses it to hunt or as a defensive staff • found orphaned as a newborn and grew up in a particularly militant clan where the act of battle was one of honour and glory, and where there was no higher purpose than to fight for your god. War was romanticized. It wasn’t an awful way of life, and important things like respect, integrity, and virtue were well taught and practically worshiped among the youth. Still, as a boy, Knight wasn’t sold on the whole ‘honourable war’ thing. • he learned to get used to it, and even to enjoy the thrill of battle, so long as he could dispatch his opponent without causing serious harm. This was not always the case, however. He was encouraged to take down the enemy for good when his clan was attacked by several groups of Longneck. He tried to kill swiftly and without causing unnecessary pain, but it was all for naught as his clan was overrun and young Knight was pushed to flee by his mentor. He was one of the few survivors to escape the carnage, and for a long time he saw himself as a coward and a traitor for running away while the only family he’s known was slain around him (all the while not knowing that his close friend, zag, had also survived) • he spent the rest of his youth and much of his early adulthood fighting as a pawn in other people’s wars, trying to keep the notions of bravery and goodness in his thoughts while he maimed and killed for causes he didn’t believe in • before his arrival is Stormshroud, Knight found himself in a shadow clan where they prepared him to serve the Shadowbinder. However, during a battle for dominance in Her name, he had a very close encounter with death and was grievously wounded. He thought he was ready to give up the ghost and move on to whatever awaited him, but he was found by a centaur ally of Stormshroud and brought to the clan, where he met the spunky young mirror by the name of Fulminata and the pearlcatcher called Faurael • they helped get him back on his feet, literally and metaphorically, and he pledged his life to the clan in return (Fulminata insisted that it wasn’t necessary but Faurael understood it was a symbolic gesture) • Knight loves telling stories, fictional or real. He’s a very dramatic storyteller and every tale is practically a play. He likes to make himself a great and courageous hero, someone who single-handedly defeated some terrifying monster and rescued dozen stories of princes and princesses in glorious fashion, saving the day with song and dance. • When he’s convinced to tell stories from his own life, they’re some of the most embellished. He doesn’t want to treat war as some fantasy to aspire to, but he can’t help but make the stories sound ridiculous, and try to distance himself from the real events. When he catches himself glorifying it like he himself was taught to as a child, he stops himself immediately and moves on to something else to distract the little ones • he trains others in some of the various weapons he’s mastered in his lifetime but is insistent that he will only teach how to hunt prey and defend oneself, never ever ever any offensive moves to harm an adversary. He usually coaxes/bribes his students into taking ‘optional’ diplomacy classes with Naiad, Cawthorne, or Israphel |

The Candlebearer Well, I was caught inside the wreck Never found my way out, I was filled with indifference The animals, they were getting tired So I sang them a song, cause they promised not to take too long But I can't find my way back home I'll listen to you if you want me to But you have to share a smoke Yeah, I've been running against the wind And I can hear the angels calling The madness has been pulling me Right back out my stride I feel the change in the rising tide And blood is in the room And I buried all my wrongs there with my youth (Don't give up on me now) I'm on the outside (Don't give up on me now) And I'm falling apart Wooh yeah Pleased to meet you, excuse my hands I've been bitten by an enemy that's pretended to be my friend No, I never wanted to be like them I thought I was just too clever to be brought down to their level Of misfortuned chagrin Well, I don't care about what it's worth But if you lift this burden off my back I'll follow you to the bloody end I've lived my life the way I want But no one can tell me they're not afraid of the freedom of deliverance Will I take it all in stride I feel the change in the rise and tide Someone's in the room I buried all my guilt there with my youth (Don't give up on me now) And I'm on the outside (Don't give up on me now) But it's warm on the outside (Don't give up on me now) That's a lie, I don't wanna fall apart.... Oooh Yeah, well, me? I've been afraid, I clawed and I fought like hell The darkest days upon you Yeah, well, me? I've gone astray, my blood was turning to sand The darkest days upon you Yeah, well, me? I've been afraid that the numbness was getting closer The feverish days upon you • goats in trees - foster the people |
