Biography
Herbalist, Valkyrie's Consort - House Swiftclaw
|
Mace met Flail, his mate, when he was very young. From the very first moment he saw her, he was awed by her strength and grace. Where she was fierce, he was calm; where she was loud, he was quiet. Foraging together on the Windswept Plateau, he discovered a great love for the greenery there. He enjoyed picking apart berries and learning which leaves soothed aching muscles. Over his long life, he has become quite the healer--Flail and her warriors have come back with enough injuries to give him ample practice. His passion, however, is not for healing; rather he takes the greatest joy in the simple act of raising a plant, from seed to germination. After Saibhreas's move to the domain of Stormcatcher, he has accepted the challenge of keeping a flourishing garden in such an unforgiving place. So far, he hasn't been winning, but he has loved and known Flail too long to give up after a few bad battles. Together, Mace and Flail form one of the three royal lines at Clan Saibhreas. Recently, their third daughter chose to take her place as princess of Saibhreas. She took the name Yuvarani, meaning crown princess, and has begun to study the art of Prophecy with the Stormcatcher. Flail had never mourned the departure of their children before, as she believed they were strong enough to find their own way, whether it be with a deity or with another clan. Mace, on the other hand, very much loved his children for the same reason he loved his garden--because watching them grow into the dragon they wanted to be was the most rewarding part of the experience. In his old age, Mace finds certain things he thought constant to be failing him. His eyesight is waning, his claws unsteady as they tend to his herbs. He cannot remember as many flowers as he used to, or what conditions helped them grow. The most recent thing to fail him was his own virility -- much to his mate's chagrin. As one of the Valkyrie's Consorts, there is a lot of pressure to, ahem, perform adequately and continue to produce strong heirs. He knew Flail would have to find some other dragon, and he was fully prepared to leave her in order to make her transition easier. But Chief Magistrate Cain came to his aid with a rather unique proposal -- he could retain his title as Consort if he chose to abandon his right to sire. Given that so many of his children had abandoned him in order to find their own purpose, Mace was ready to make his peace with this development. He had sired as many children as he could bear to lose, for now. Perhaps after a long time of rest he might feel well enough to begin breeding or return to his duties as the clan Herbalist -- but for now, Vanilla the Healer is doing a fine job and he feels he's earned his rest. In his place is Ayaka, a strong and precocious young dragon. He does not envy Flail having to deal with that high strung imperial, and he also does not envy Ayaka needing to placate Flail's terrible tempers. He's in need of some deep hibernation. But it's not the end for him just yet. |
