One of the first young Primals ever admitted into Home, Avalt is among the first of Home's Primal graduates. A gifted young magician with a logical mind and a love of technology, he agreed to stay on at Home after his graduation to assist with research and development duties, though he'll tell anyone that most of his job is keeping an eye on the residents in Vanaheimr Hall. A natural leader, he takes his duties seriously, and can always be found thinking about new technologies and strategies to "move Home into the future" (as he puts it).
- Biography
Avalt has always considered himself both cursed and lucky. He sees his Primal eyes as a terrible misfortune, especially considering the negative stereotypes often associated with Plague Primal dragons, which have only gotten worse in recent years. At the same time, he is lucky to have relatively good vision - for a Primal, anyway - and was brought to Home while he was still a hatchling. He suffers from persistent fears concerning flying. Although Home has dragons trained to teach Primal dragons how to fly, Avalt's not-brilliant eyesight and anxious personality meant he had a great deal of difficulty learning, and prefers to remain firmly landbound. Knowing that he was abandoned as a hatchling, like many Plague Primals, makes him feel a bit useless, and he wants nothing more than to be a reliable part of a family. Even though that's exactly what he is, he has difficulty convincing himself of that.
- Life at Home
Known as a studious and excellent student while he was a resident at Home, those same qualities have extended into Avalt's adult life. His job as the head of the research and development team, he'll say, isn't nearly as fancy as it sounds. Most days, he just watches over resident projects, helps faculty get funding for their projects, and works on his own projects whenever he has the time. That said, his digital spreadsheets have already transformed Home's organization, and as a result Home's accountants and legal specialists simply adore him. Avalt typically prefers to stay behind the scenes and becomes easily embarrassed if he's pushed into the limelight, but he can occasionally be coerced into team-teaching tech courses.
- Relationships
Very competitive by nature, Avalt is staunch in his belief that Vanaheimr is the Hall of the best dragons at Home, and he's determined to do his part to keep it that way. He likes to keep everything in tip-top shape, and the residents in Vanaheimr Hall know that nothing can get past him. Avalt is determined to make sure Vanaheimr is always over-performing and organized, and always pushes Vanaheimr dragons to succeed and take pride in their Hall. He can be a bit overbearing at times, but every resident in Vanaheimr can name countless times they've gone to Avalt for help with everything from their studies to organizing their schedules to their personal problems. Avalt truly cares about the dragons in Vanaheimr Hall, the Heads of Hall rely on him tremendously, and the residents in the Hall see him as a big brother figure who they can always count on.
- Personality
A logically-minded and quick-thinking dragon, Avalt does not like to feel lazy and prefers to be doing something productive whenever he can. When bored, he becomes restless and irritable, and he prefers to keep his mind occupied. The type to fixate on problems, he's been known to drive himself absolutely crazy if he can't figure something out. Though he's usually the model of reliability, he occasionally annoys the faculty at Home by fixating on something unimportant but interesting and letting urgent but boring projects go. Avalt hates the stereotypes surrounding Plague Primal dragons, and goes to great lengths to keep himself and his surroundings neat, tidy, and proper. In fact, he's a bit of a germophobe - the one time he visited the Scarred Wasteland on a field trip, he doused himself in hand sanitizer for a month. Avalt can be a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, but he knows he's valued at Home, and he knows he helps keep the place running.
