Ashen
The Blacksmith

"The forge is always burning, day and night. I don't know how Ashen keeps the flames stoked and blazing all the time. Does she even sleep at all?"

The fires of the forge burn just as hot as the workshops from the Great Furnace. As a hard-working Blacksmith, Ashen makes tools, weapons, and armour for Outpost Toast, and can repair almost anything. The Skydancer can come across as rather gruff, but she cares deeply and is very family-orientated. She is rather exasperated by Prophet, who is constantly lecturing dragons about Light philosophy.

Tragically, Ashen lost her unborn hatchling and hasn't been able to have hatchlings since. Distraught by the loss, she threw herself into her work, barely eating and sleeping for months. She begrudgingly took on Damien as her apprentice after seeing the Spiral, who was barely older than a hatchling at the time, be passed around other blacksmiths due to his rebellious nature. Ashen quickly noticed how talented he was, and encouraged him to explore carpentry and hone his gifts. Damien became less unruly, and they slowly opened up to each other emotionally. Damien greatly disliked the move to the outpost, and started acting out once again. Worried about him, Ashen sent him to Glory so that he could be with others his own age. The worked perfectly, and Damien went back to his happy, prankster self again.

Similar to Damien, Ashen prefers to roast her foes with fire. With the exception that she has far better control over it. She is not opposed to resorting to her forge tools as weapons. Hot coals are just as painful as fire magic, with added projectile damage.

While the concept of motherhood is still a sore spot for Ashen, it aches a little less when she sees Damien flourishing and happy. She is fond of Ozzie and Morgan too. The three friends often celebrate Mother's Day by bestowing Ashen with handmade gifts and words of appreciation, where they tell her how much she means to them as a mother figure as they never knew their biological mothers. The hatchlings have begun to follow suit despite already having mothers, stating they see her as a second mother. As the Fire Representative, Ashen is in charge of Damien and Thurlow, who are both pranksters, making this task rather annoying. She collects fertility statues to help others in the hopes that they don't lose their hatchlings the way she did.
