Kyanite was rescued from a lair that collapsed during hibernation. He had never truly known the lair, for Kyanite hatched just a few days before hibernation began. An unfortunate consequence of broken laws. While his clanmates suffocated and bled under the rubble and called desperately to the outside world for aid, he slept. For months and months, until the encroaching rot that fed on his family fled to the warm reserve of his own scales. It was Seso who found him there, barely clinging to life. Although he was treated with everything the Ichor Covenant had, it was not enough to cure him of his many ailments.

His weakened state has led to a series of compromises. Most notably, his environment and clothing had to be pristine and sterile. There was an attempt in the beginning to house him among fellow dragons, but after several notable failures Kyanite was eventually kept in the lab and looked after by Kevin, Melonflower, and Stella, who made sure to allow him daily reprieve into the gardens at day, and the halls at night. He was also allowed to attend festivals, gatherings, and other public recreational events, where he inevitably met Ender. Their tale is one of jubilance, and soon after their initial meeting, Kyanite became part of the festivities himself.

With this newfound purpose came something Kyanite wasn't quite prepared for. Fame. No longer was he the sickly wheezing beast that stalked the halls after sunfall. Now he was the covenant's most esteemed, mysterious assistant. Always present, and yet no one knew anything about him. The attention was too much for his caretakers to quell- notes, gifts, charms- some dragons even appeared in person. Even worse, Kyanite loved it. He wasn't used to people knowing his name. To saying hello. To seeking him out, not for the purpose of taking his temperature and feeding him bitter leaves, but to ask how his day has been.

Ender has since announced his presence publicly, but the curiosity didn't end there. Now, while Kyanite's days are bright and filled with warmth and joy, darkness gathers behind his scenes. A desperate race unfurls... for it is only a matter of time before Kyanite falls ill again.
