There are times, ya know, where you think you're cursed. There's no other explanation. Someone out there hates you and has sent forth a powerful force upon you in order to thwart your plans and see to it that you never get away with anything ever again. Lemmie tell you about my curse. His name is Maschine.

So there I was- it was one of those nights where the darkness feels like it's alive, like it's a part of the very air you're breathing. Don't get me wrong, it's always dark- the sun hasn't broken through that heavy cloud layer in generations. But this was something different. It was like the smell of ozone before a storm... an omen. See, I was on the trail of this little thief who had wronged me- she'd stolen something from me and thought she could get away with it. I had her cornered her in an alleyway and firmly demanded my treasure back. She looked scared... terrified even- but that was just one of her many tricks, I know it. I was just about to teach her a lesson she’d never forget.... when he appeared.

It's like he materialized out of thin air without a sound. First it was just me and this rotten thief, then suddenly there he was. Was it a trap they'd laid for me? Was she just bait that I’d fallen for? Whatever it was, I had no choice- I had to let her go. She ran... and he kept me at bay, making sure I wouldn't follow. Then they were both gone, just straight up gone. He's just some rouge vigilante, out to make my life difficult. But the worst part? The worst part is that he’s ALWAYS around now.

Maschine was there the day I stole that shiny thing right out from under the nose of Apollo, one of the most powerful beings in the city... maybe even the world. Maschine tracked me down somehow, it’s like he’s got connections with the information available to him. He threatened me at my weakest- telling me that if I didn't return what I'd taken, the city would blame ALL of us... me, that rotten little theif, and himself... for the sudden lack of light that The Shiny was going to provide to the masses.

Now... suddenly after his mysterious appearance, it feels like the whole world is after me. The Company blame me for the loss of their stupid valuable trinket, the one they were going to use to become the most powerful corporation this world had ever seen. But they blame him too- turns out he.... actually WORKED for them. He worked for Apollo Enterprises and seems to have taken the blame for “working with that criminal” as some sort of accomplice. At least that’s the story the news stations are all running..

All I know is that I need him now, even if every fiber of my being screams to run, to hide. There’s something about this guy, something that haunts him. Something that creates flames of hatred in his cold blue eyes when he sees me. It’s like he can see past my exterior, as if he’s able to see something in my soul. Could it be? From all those years ago? Was that... you?
