Taffy

The hatchling screamed, terror bubbling up in his chest and constricting his throat. The sky swirled around her as the tornado pulled at her gut, her legs, her body, ripping him away from the ground, from everything she knew. He felt like his stomach was coming up into his mouth as they shot into the sky.
He shut his eyes tight and felt a scream escape his lips, but he heard nothing over the roar of the wind. They tried to flail their legs, spread their wings, stop the descent, but he couldn't do anything. Nothing was working; nothing stopped the brutal gusts as it pulled her away.
Taffy jolted out of her sleep with a gasp. Turtle had his neck curled around hers. He was awake, but still sleepy, despite their rapid heartbeat.
Sinking into him, she hugged his head back with her own. She hated the nightmares. They always shared the same dreams every night. They were one of the few Aberrations who shared equal control of the body and the mind, fluidly shifting control and sharing a deep understanding of each other's minds and needs. Turtle sighed and nuzzled his head closer to hers. "It was just a dream. It didn't happen again," he whispered reassuringly.
"I know. They're just so vivid." Their heartbeat began to grow steady and calm. After a moment, a content smile curled the corners of her lips.
