When Blacklight laid eyes on Pyxis she had two thoughts. The first was that he looked remarkably like a grumpy skydancer she knows, and the second was that he absolutely must go home with her. Pyxis, for his part, didn’t seem to mind that she basically kidnapped him. He didn’t really have a home in the shambling, dusty streets she found him in – an urchin, wrapped in rags and pigment. The only real surprise was that he didn’t come alone.

Pyxis has a good head for survival. He has sharp instincts, quick reflexes and a good set of defensive skills. It’s not just anyone who can stay alive in gutters and back alleys for as long as Pyxis has but he and Wicked created signals to keep each other safe. And Pyxis can use his naturally secreted poison to keep away folks who would harm them. Which is perhaps why he has such a poor sense of self-preservation. Most would’ve warned him not to trust such a sparkling thief as Blacklight, but Pyxis knew to take a chance when it was offered, anything to escape the streets.

And honestly, being claimed by someone was possibly the best thing to ever happen to him. Despite the complaints from the Reliquary’s denmother, Inerri, that they don’t need more children, thank you very much; he was given a chance here. In the canyon he got to learn. Mostly what he cares about it lessons on poisons from Tarryn, potions from Lotus, thieving from Blacklight, and hanging out with Callana to paint bright nonsense artworks. He gets a strange look from some of them now and then, a look he knows well, one that says ‘we know where you came from and what your future might have been’ and for their help he’s grateful. For their occasionally overbearing parenting, he is less so.

Some of the dragons in the lair seem to think he’s special somehow, as if having poison glands and a nose for unsafe consumables makes him something different. Honestly, Wicked has a fancy magic power but Pyxis just likes to paint things, nothing special about that. And his aptitude for potions is just because he loves to mix things all together. He’s nothing like Venin. No way.

The best part of living in the Reliquary now is that he has friends his age, not just Wicked, but Saph and Ji Qeng as well. They go on adventures to explore their new home together; it’s a big place for such little dragons, but it’s nice to not be alone.

ORIGIN / There is a place in the Viridian Labyrinth where the leaves of the vegetation can cause paralysis, the fruits are often deceptive and poisonous, and the very air hangs thickly with the promise of illness. Some think this is where Plaguebringer has had the most success in tormenting the Gladekeeper’s ever verdant lands, but what they do not understand is that nature is survival of the fittest and the dragons of the Labyrinth have long since learned not to underestimate Plaguebringer’s propensity to deliver disease to their forest. And so this is the place where nature dragons learn the ways of toxins and other deadly extracts pulled from the land around them. They are the last line of defence before the Behemoth, and they will not be caught unawares.

Fact / Perhaps due to his birth clan, Pyxis has a unique ability to detect foods that have been poisoned or that are spoiled somehow. He has a very sensitive nose and has never been able to adequately explain this gift to anyone. Regardless, he can always tell whether something is good to eat or drink, even if he’s never seen it before in his life.

Likes / Curious, Pyxis likes to learn, mostly about potions and alchemy and sometimes art. Has an annoying fondness for sneaking around at night to scare folks. Has been learning bird calls because he likes to be able to make funny sounds.

Dislikes / When someone tells him he’s ‘destined for greatness’. Doesn’t know what that means and doesn’t care. Just wants to enjoy himself. He also doesn’t really like Venin. Pyxis would never admit it, but Venin terrifies him.

Interests / He enjoys mixing things together, it makes him feel like he’s back home learning to brew poisons. Mostly he makes paints though, Pyxis enjoys painting, considers himself something of an artist. He especially likes to put his pigments in little vials that he carries with him in a special box. He has a habit of picking one to toss somewhere well out of reach of his little arms and then he laughs when someone finds a splatter of purple or yellow later.
