Asphodelus is scary. He also wears a silly hat, but it makes him seem even more frightening. Nobody laughs at him. He's addicted to caffeine and loves the opera. To his eternal surprise, him and Archangelica have found love with each other.

He is in charge of doling out punishments to those who need them. He cannot be swayed by tears, words, or bribes, and those that have committed crimes fear his punishments. Some come back from his 'care' changed, a shell of what they once were. His dungeons are deep inside the cliffs.

Botanically, Asphodelus is a genus of perennial herbaceous monocots. In Greek mythology, the asphodel is one of the most famous of the plants connected with the dead and the underworld. The Asphodel Meadows is where the souls of people who lived lives of near equal good and evil rested, a land of utter neutrality. While the inhabitants were in life neither good nor evil, so they are treated in the afterlife. All residents drink from the river Lethe before entering the fields, thus losing their identities.
