ever-present, always watching, inevitable.
beneath the earth, hidden from the skies above, something vile lies in wait.
there is no real way to tell how, when, and where the immortal cell came into being. it's mere presence may have caused the end of a world, some would say, thousands upon thousands of years before their time. perhaps it is death incarnate, slowly but steadily claiming those who rightfully belong in it's clutches. some even say that the cell may have been created by mortal beings, pursuing perfection that ended in folly.
but these are only speculations from those who have seen it in their visions and hallucinations as their disease progressed. such a being only exists to those who bear this plague, and them alone, each and every one witnessing their own form of the immortal cell, bearing countless different visages from one to another. some say it takes the form of a winding, endless centipede. some say it stands upright, horrific tendrils swaying behind it.
but one thing remains the same - where its face would be is the shape of a diamond.
the immortal cell was only but a vision to many, but it tormented them, haunting them in both every waking moment of their life, and deep within their dreams as well. even in slumber, one was not safe - they would be cursed with figments and delusions none others could see, all while their day of judgement draws ever nearer, and all while the horrific plague that riddled their bodies began to choke the life out of those afflicted.
there is no cure.
but the cycle can be broken.
for deep beneath the earth, slumbering and lying in wait, is the very heart of this corruption. a chimera of ancient design - a beating, pulsing, repulsive heart that perpetuates the spread and existence of this disease. it is a heart that breathes and lives and screams, its horrific echoes shifting as it calls upon its greatest champion when faced with danger, to which, of course, the cell answers. none have laid eyes upon it. for as long as the cell exists, in the visions and minds of those consumed by the plague, it will ensure that none dare draw near its heart.
... though its judgement is final, perhaps it can be defied.
