Biography

Delyth
Archaeologist
Neutral Good

PkKAmaj.png
Delyth is an archaeologist, studying the interactions between ancient beastclans and dragons, specifically the events of any previous wars. Considering recent tensions, she thinks it'd be a good thing if history didn't repeat itself.

She once studied under eminent scholars of the Observatory, but quickly decided that they were nothing more than a bunch of maniacs with diplomas. Thus, she quickly chose to study under the tutelage of some light dragons instead, finding them to be far more reasonable. After a few years in the Hewn City, Delyth returned to the isles, determined to show the local researchers how a proper study is conducted. Annoyingly, nobody in the isles particularly cares what research techniques you use, as long as you produce interesting results. (They don't even always need to be correct results.)

Her current focus is on some maren ruins located in the ocean to the west of the island, which appear to show signs of being previously razed by dragons. (The fact that they appear to have been burnt down despite being underwater isn't even the most interesting part.) Not particularly fond of water herself, Delyth is reliant on other clan members to scout the ruins and bring back artefacts for her.

Glaucus is the dragon who collects the majority of said artefacts, and Delyth is very grateful for the pearlcatcher's help. But she could stand to show at least a bit of concern for the fact that he gets injured nearly every time he makes the trip, or at the very least Glaucus would appreciate it if she did so. Delyth not even notice. She's often too excited by whatever he dredges up to pay him any mind, leaving Glaucus to stumble off in the direction of the infirmary by himself. Seagully also searches the ruins sometimes, though as the imperial doesn't want to anger the local maren she won't do so very often.

From what Glaucus has recovered, Delyth has been able to determine that the dragon attack on the maren was short and violent. What's weird is that there doesn't seem to have been any reason for the conflict. Barely anything has been looted from the ruins, and what has been was probably recovered by maren survivors, not stolen by dragons. Almost as if the attackers weren't dragons at all, since no self-respecting dragon would pass up free treasure to add to their hoard. (No, Delyth isn't doing that now, she's taking the treasure in the name of knowledge! Or at least she says she is.) Perhaps one day the maren will be willing to speak with her, Delyth hopes. Maybe one of them has stories of who, or what, would destroy a city for the fun of it.

Please don't answer that with 'arcane dragons'.

Delyth believes the artefacts she has recovered belong in a museum, and wasn't willing to open one as she's was afraid that if she put them on display, they'd quickly become damaged. Or stolen. Or abused for any magical properties they might have. Or knowing some members of this clan, all three. However, once Lumisa opened a museum of her own, Delyth was quite eager to put all of the objects of vast historical significance she's discovered out for public viewing. As long as they're constantly guarded, of course. And not by Lumisa's robots! Those things are a danger and far more likely to smash relics than protect them. They'll hurt the museum visitors too, but who really cares about those?

She also spends more time than she'd like attempting to interview Surf, who appears to know much about the ruins, but is oddly reluctant to speak about them. The armour the tundra wears would be interesting to study as well, but Delyth knows there's little chance of her ever being able to take a close look at it.

Atuin is also an annoyance, for while he might have found a multitude of treasures, he doesn't remember where any of them came from. Thus most of them are useless for Delyth's studies. The coatl doesn't care about how an ancient artefact causes nearly objects to glow a variety of colours, she wants to know why those dragons of old would want a hat that does that in the first place.

(Said hat has a habit of disappearing from her lab whenever parties are being thrown.)

She doesn't actually know much in the ways of magic, her floppy hat is just useful for keeping the sun out of her face. Her one magical skill is running a little bit of electricity through various artefacts to see it that makes them do anything.
