Biography

SCHU
Right should rule over might.
______________________________________________

Schu is the Egyptian god of the dry air and the sunlight. He is one of the primordial gods and married to his sister Tefnut, goddess of the moisture. His name means "void" or "he who ascends". With his sister-wife he has two children: Nut, goddess of the sky, and Geb, god of the earth. Schu sometimes is depicted as a human with a ostrich feather on his head or rarely as a lion.

When the world was created Schu was the god who had to separate the primordial waters from the world, to make the world a place for the living. For the first time he had to carry the ocean of the sky on his body to protect the world from being drowned. It was his sister who found a way to make the dry air a safe place for the living. She filled the void with moisture and prevents the ocean this way to fall on the earth.
Schu fell in love with Tefnut while watching her attempts to help him. As soon as he does not have to carry the sky anymore, he married his sister and had two children with her: Geb and Nut. Schu cared a lot for his family these days, smoothed down differences between his two children and was a strict but loving father - until he recognized that Geb and Nut fell in love as well. He punished his children for this behaviour and decided to separate the two lovers. Nut had to live as the sky since these days, Geb had to stay as the earth. Schu himself turned into the dry air again to separate his two children for all time, standing between them and watching their mournings. Even though he never wanted to see his children not to be happy he could not accept their love. This might be the reason why he tries to be a good grandfather and great-grandfather at least...
