Sapphire

One of Crake and Oceania's few children that stayed behind, Sapphire is part of the protection squad along with his father and mother.

Sapphire was born in Stream's lair with his sister Eulalia. While Eulalia inherited Oceania's current weaving talent, Sapphire inherited his father's raw power. When Crake noticed that Sapphire had a knack for fighting, he started to train him as much as he could. They sparred a lot, which usually resulted in Sapphire being bruised all over his body. At home, Sapphire loved to tease Eulalia by poking her with his pointy horn which would result in Eulalia strangling lightly him with her body. Though they fought often, they were close siblings who would help each other out whenever they needed assistance.

When Sapphire finally managed to land a solid blow onto Crake, Crake decided that he was strong enough to join the protection squad. Sapphire had never practiced with other dragons before so when he joined his first hunt, he was more than a little nervous. A giant squid had invaded the lair and the protection squad had been assigned to kill it. Crake and Oceania were dealing with a bigger threat so Sapphire was hunting without his parents for the first time. It went well until Sapphire charged at the giant squid with his horn. The squid easily dodged it and Sapphire's horn landed straight in one of Fey's eyes, heavily injuring her. The squid was about to finish Sapphire off while he was in shock about his mistake when a current swept the squid away. Sapphire, realizing it was Eulalia who saved him, quickly recovered from the shock and killed the squid. He took Fey and brought her to the infirmary while the other members brought back the dead squid.

Back in the lair, Sapphire locked himself in his room, ashamed of his mistake. He refused to eat and his parents became very worried. One day, he heard a gentle knock on the door. He didn't answer but a bolt of water knocked down the door. When he turned around in shock, he saw none other than Stream and Fey standing in the door. Stream explained to him that mistakes happen and he was just unprepared for teamwork and coordination. Fey was obviously upset, but she too reassured him that she didn't hate him for what happened. She still had a few functioning eyes so she could dodge him the next time she jokingly said. Sapphire apologized over and over until Fey told him to stop. She offered to be his training partner so this wouldn't happen again. Sapphire, who still felt uncomfortable being close to the one he injured, accepted, but only because Fey threatened to guilt trip him every day until he did.

While he is not on active duty currently, Sapphire works and trains hard with his partner so that he might get stronger and better at working as a team. He will never make the mistake again of thinking power is everything.
