Syvnion wiped a tear from his eye as the smell of seapetals wafted through the air. They reminded him of home.

"You can't. You simply can't," his father's voice echoed in his head.

"Coatls aren't meant to be warriors," his mother pleaded with him. "Our kind are mages, wizards, magicians, healers... you don't have to endanger yourself to make a difference!"

Clomp, clomp, clomp.

They were right, of course, and Syvnion knew it. But he'd felt the call of the sword since his hatching day, and something about this just felt so... right.

Clomp, clomp, clomp.

He'd trained all his life for this moment. No one would ever tell him what he could or couldn't do again.

The sound of his regiment's boots, marching into battle, filled him with resolve. His people would sing songs of this day.
