None of the Vultures are entirely sure what Vaela is. Eth seems to be corporeal, but there is something about eth that doesn't feel entirely real. Something in the way eth stands that makes eth seem just a half-step beyond the reality of most dragons. The most popular theory among the more gossip-loving clan members is that eth is some sort of spirit possessing the remains of a dragon. They cite the way eths voice seems ever so slightly hollow, the way eth seems to have to think about eths movements more than others, and the fact that nobody has ever seen eth sleeping. The gossips are fairly evenly divided on whether the spirit is benign or malicious.

One thing that is not in question is Vaela's devotion to fellow bandit Virlomi. Eth seems to take hir as equal parts role model and best friend. The Nocturne tendency towards mimicry is extreme in eth, and when Virlomi is around, eth makes such an attempt at copying hir that it can be hard to distinguish one from the other, if one ignores the differences in their garb.

Vaela prefers eths robberies to be over as quickly as possible. In combat, eth is a whirling dervish of claws and teeth, and woe betide anyone who happens to cross eth the wrong way. More often than not, eth's missions can be summarized with the words "no survivors." This only adds to the rumors that eth might be some sort of vengeful spirit, come to exact revenge for some perceived wrong from dragonkind. As long as eth continues to remember to bring home the valuables at the end of the day, though, and leaves the fighting outside of the Nest, the majority of the Vultures don't really mind.
