Fuzziness. A strange sound of buzzing ringing somewhere. The world is coated in a thick layer of black as my vision slowly fades back in.
I try to turn over. Something feels odd. I feel...restrained.
My shoulders hurt. My entire skull is infested with a strange, stabbing pain. I can't understand it.
My vision is back. Bright, fluorescent white lights blind me worse than the black vignette from earlier.
A large shadow slowly blocks the light. My eyes once more have to adjust as the shadow looks at me.
It's a dragon. I think.
Yes, it's a dragon. A massive male Imperial. He's wearing one of those...plague doctor masks.
My throat hurts, but I grumble once or twice.
"What are you?"
My voice is altered. It's light, it sounds like bells, yet somehow still raspy.
The dragon stares at me. I can't read his expression. I can't even see his face.
"I'm the creator," the dragon growls, his voice rumbling. "I've fixed you."
"What?" I manage to choke out. I know I've existed before this. He didn't make me.
But who was I?
"Don't worry about it,"
"Who are you?"
"I'm Pestis. I saved you from the Black Death."
I squint. "Why me?" I don't even know why I say it. It just felt right.
"I can't save everyone. But I knew I could save you from when I just saw you. And you came out wonderful."
"What?'
"I've been working on you for months. After I cured you, I wanted to keep you. I made some nice adjustments. You look spectacular."
"Can I see? Can I see what you've done to me?"
The Imperial looks down slightly before slowly shaking his head. "No," he says a lot quieter than anything before. "Not yet. You're...you're not ready."
A wave of realization hits me. "How...how many times have I been awake before this?"
Pestis shakes his head again. I wait patiently for an answer before feeling a stabbing pain in my arm.
The world is fading out again. That same fuzziness. The same buzzing. "Wait," is all I'm able to get out before being lulled right back into sleep.
