The unquestioned leader of the clan, Erothene tends to be overbearing and controlling. He has his clan-mates best interest at heart but often intercedes in their lives more than he should. Has difficulty admitting to his mistakes, and his temper can send the younger dragons running when ever he loses his handle on it. Which is often. When it comes down to it, he is a protective, caring, and intelligent leader, but he has by no means perfected his role.
His personal hoard is composed mainly of gems, jewels and fine jewelry, despite his disinterest in actually wearing such things. He enjoys crystal, cut or unpolished and natural and one of his favourite pass times when he is utterly alone is waiting for the sun to begin setting and holding up different gems to the light, watching the refraction and shimmers the stones cast until he finds himself alone in the darkness of dusk.
Mostly it's because his eye sight is going. Only a couple of his closest clanmates know the extent of the depletion of his sight. His best guess for the cause is his long term exposure to the sulfur vents and toxic spores that live in the depths of the clan's hollowed out caverns.

Another peculiar secret of Erothene's is an uncontrollable urge that's been building in him ever sense he seized control of the clan. Novalune calls it the King's Poison that many clan kings, emperors, leaders, and the like seem to fall to. The more subjects under the Dragon's reign, the stronger the urge to Hoard and Harem is. A few suspect that this is the cause of a few of the newer dragons being brought in by Erothene, though, Erothene himself refuses to comment on the subject at all.

Erothene has a secret symbiosis with the spores that float about the clan's deepest caverns. They've infected him, bonded with him, and like a strange cordyceps, speaks with him.
He tends carefully to the gardens only he is allowed to visit. Deep below the hot springs, even further than the sulfur pits, in the humid darkness there rests a garden of fungi of various sorts. Erothene cares for this strange brood nearly as much as he does his clan. He used to wonder if his compulsion to care for this garden was a side effect of the spores infecting him... But its been some time now since he has had the thought to question it. Perhaps he no longer cares, or perhaps the infection's hold is just all that much tighter.

Lately, though, something has changed. A new dragon came to the clan, an beautiful dragon, Lucen. Erothene can hardly see him anymore but he still recalls his beauty, his Grace, and the elegant way he held himself when lecturing Ero on not taking care of himself. Lucen too little upon himself to become a right hand dragon for Erothene, and a guide; his eyes if you will. Most of the clan is still unaware of how badly the blindness has become so to onlookers it simply looks like a king and his favorite advisor. Or a king and his favorite lover.

The whelp and the king became very close, despite Ero constantly pushing back, denying the need for help. It took ages it felt like, but now they are nigh inseparable.
