Dragon Log

Young when he came to the Clan from another area, this Skydancer has grown into his place, and his role. He studies both magic and the stars, and enjoys showing off for his clanmates. A bit arrogant, but with a good heart, and a ready mind.

8-28-14: He has found a beautiful piece of apparel to set off his wings! Doesn't the Phoenix Fathers Accent (Flameforger's Festival Apparel, 2014) look perfect on him?

10-18-14: His companion, the Mistwatch Shellion, has Awakened! It is a good day for them both, and the Shellion has actually looked away from his mist for a time to have a chat....

11-13-14: After almost a whole moon cycle, the Shellion has grown bored, and has decided to wander to another part of the cave to watch some magical mist eddies. The Skydancer understands perfectly, and wishes his friend well in his "quest." In the meantime, a young Longneck Interloper scout has wandered into the cave, and taken a liking to him....

2-10-15: The Longneck Interloper has Awakened! Perhaps now he will stop challenging every dragon he meets to a duel....

4-10-15: Magical Studies sometimes have very unusual results. While traveling in the Starwood Strand, this Skydancer stumbled upon a fascinating magical plant. The plant was not nearly as impressed, and tried to strangle the dragon. After a bit of a magical tussle, though, it settled down... and followed the Skydancer home. The other dragons are not that impressed....

7-10-15: The Janustrap's dragon-strangling days are well over, much to the relief of the rest of the Clan. In fact, some of the other dragons--particularly the Spirals--have found Venus' habit of catching insects quite useful--especially once she learned to share. Perhaps now that she has Awakened the Clan will find her even more helpful.... at least, her Skydancer companion hopes so....

9-12-15: After much thought, and a bit of discussion with several Ridgebacks of the Clan--most particularly Norberta, who, while she enjoys HP scrolls and books most of all, still sometimes reads other things--he has finally decided on his name: A conglomeration of his love for esoteric magic, his increasingly friendly nature, and his "otherworldly" outlook. He took the name Mellon (pronounced mell-ahn), after the elvish word for "friend," found in a bunch of scrolls about a magical ring...a word that just happens to be the spell to open a magical gateway. Perhaps not a usual spell name, but it does seem to suit him....

6-26-16: Venus has grown restless, and decided to take a nice vacation in the Vault. Perhaps the Janustrap's decision has something to do with the new familiar that Mellon has befriended? The Shining Goblin did seem to be a bit unhappy with the carnivorous plant's presence near his chosen dragon.....

11-6-16: The Shining Goblin has Awakened! Perhaps now he will be a little more tolerant of other creatures near Mellon? Or at least, choose a name for himself? Mellon is still a bit unsure on both counts, but at least his friend is happy--for the moment....

4-16-17: Still no name for the Shining Goblin, and now there has been a new development. Out of nowhere, a Lux Spectre suddenly showed an interest to Mellon. In fact, the creature was so interested in bonding with the Light Skydancer that he actually pushed the Goblin out of the way! Fortunately, Mellon was able to calm things down, and now both beings seem reasonably happy with the new arrangement....

7-13-17: After months of "pushing," Mellon's "family" have worked out their differences, and found a bonding order arrangement that satisfies everyone. And not a moment too soon: The Lux Spectre has Awakened! Mellon is extremely pleased for his friend, and hopeful that this truce between the Spectre and Goblin will continue, as the Shining Goblin has been showing some surprising aptitude in Leyline magic, while the Spectre is proving quite adept at fathoming nexus points--and that has only increased with his Awakening. Working together they could be a formidable research team....

4-24-18: It seems that Mellon's habit of staying near the caves has begun to pique the curiosity of some of the more mischievous dragons of the Clan. In particular, Puzzle apparently made it his project to convince Mellon to leave the caves on a journey for a while, and he succeeded admirably. Now Mellon is attending the Wavecrest Saturnalia, and seems to be having a good time. Or he was, until Puzzle dragged him onto that strange sub. At the moment, the normally friendly dragon is furiously searching for his Clanmate--and not to thank him for the seasickness, either. Puzzle, however, is proving quite elusive, so Mellon has taken a break from his self-appointed quest to do some...fishing? Well, if it calms him down....

4-25-18: Whether or not the fishing expedition was particularly calming is hard to say. But then again, one does not usually acquire a hunk of Tin and a garbled prophecy while looking for fish. Still, the Tin proved quite useful to brain Puzzle over the head, and the prophecy, an apparent lesson in how to become stronger, has at least given Mellon something new to think about. It is not likely, however, that Mellon will go exploring outside the Clan caves again any time soon....especially since he now has to explain to Dusksahdow why he and Puzzle returned early from the Festival--and why Puzzle needed to see Spinel about an odd-shaped bump on his head…

8-3-18: It took some time--and the intervention of several dragons of the Clan--but Mellon's good humor has been restored, although he is still avoiding Puzzle for the moment. This does not, however, have very much to do with the (mis)adventure on the sub, and far more to do with the fact that the friendly Light Dragon has just acquired yet another familiar that he needs to pay attention to: After several weeks of consideration, the Luminous Ambassador finally chose Mellon for his dragon companion. Most of the Clan is not surprised by this fact, considering that the Ambassador is, after all, devoted to making friends, so what other Light dragon would he have chosen? And it is certainly nice that Mellon isn't grumbling about submarines and drowning certain mischievous Mirrors anymore....

11-12-18: The Luminous Ambassador has Awakened! Mellon is thrilled for his friend. The Ambassador himself seems pleased with this development, and has commented that, now that he can read better, he will be able to help the Skydancer is his research much more easily. Mellon and his entire familiar "family" are interested in that idea, and Mellon is already considering making a trip to the Clan Library to see what can be found....

4-21-20: Venus has returned! Apparently, the Vault has become a bit too tame for the Janustrap, with all the other "Vault Familiars" deciding to leave. Fortunately, none of Mellon's "family" seem overly upset by this development. Even the Shining Goblin has accepted the plants arrival with some grace, although that could have something to do with the fact that he is now big enough to cut off the fronds of anything threatening him...
